Find fortune, foes, and friends for life in Captain & Company: the ultimate swashbuckling adventure game. Set sail with friends into epic naval battles with massive multiplayer crews and pillage your way to becoming the wealthiest pirates on the high seas.
Become a Pirate Lord
Captain & Company is all about living the life of a pirate — including all the risks and rewards of real piracy!
Players dive in as either a daring pirate Captain, piloting their own magnificent ships in glorious real-time 128-player massively multiplayer battles to reap huge rewards, or, as a riskless Company member on another players’ ship, manning the guns, patching the holes, scouting targets, and more, and then taking home a cut of the booty after successful pillages. All while dodging cannon fire and sea monsters with the goal of carefully extracting huge sums of loot!
A Captain and their Company members work together out on the open sea to blast other ships to smithereens and extract with big bags o’ loot, including “nuggies,” rare cosmetics, and critical gameplay blueprints and resources, all of which are NFTs or fungible tokens tradeable on open public marketplaces in Captain & Company’s player-operated crafting economy.
Ships are key to the adventure. Whether you’re a new Captain fresh off the shores with a barely functional dinghy or a seasoned Admiral with an experienced fleet, Captain & Company’s real-time, skill-based combat has rewards waiting for any savvy pirate.
Master Your Craft
Captain & Company is a skill-based real-time action game, where every game-time decision counts. And, while being a Company member is entirely riskless and always ends with you being at least as rich as you were when you set sail, being a Captain isn’t for the faint of heart.
In return for the divine privilege of receiving the lion’s cut of the booty, Captains are responsible for ensuring their vessels remain ship-shape. If you’re captaining a ship that’s blown of the water, you’ll need to pay a lump sum of nuggies to your harbormaster before your warship is ready for battle once again.
Along the way, you and your crew members will level up a whole assortment of skills, including everything from gunning to sailing to spotting and more. You’ll be able to display your hard-earned achievements on a global leaderboard to really leave your mark on the Goldcoves that we call home, as well as qualify for exclusive events and tournaments fit for only the finest pirates in the seven seas.
Free to Play, Insanely Accessible
Captain & Company is built for absolutely everyone to enjoy, and we mean it. We designed the experience such that regardless of whether you’re a high-roller with a space-age PC or you’re looking to drop in via a beat-up laptop, you’ll be able to swim into a match and pursue your dreams of pirate glory alongside tons of friends.
Captain & Company will launch first on browser and add mobile compatibility mid next year. But don’t be fooled by the platform choice — Captain & Company’s impressive tech team has taken the core combat gameplay loop from pirate hits you love like Sea of Thieves and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag and boiled it down into an impressive bitesize experience that will enable all players from every part of the world to join in the fun.
Accessibility is incredibly important, not just for diversity and higher aggregate volumes of players inside of Captain & Company, but also to make web3 gaming truly accessible to the web2 world. We’re working with the top minds and tech partners across web3 gaming to ensure that the “web2.5” experience is perfectly seamless. That means Captain & Company is one of the first major web3 games where you’ll be able to bring your own magnificent NFT ships into the exact same gameplay instance that your friends can be invited to join, even without them ever owning a wallet.
Truly multimillion player potential.
Season 1: The Iron Corsairs
With the launch of Season 1 this November we’ll be introducing the first of our three core factions, The Iron Corsairs.
The Iron Corsairs are an inventive bunch, driven by a desire to create machines that demonstrate their knack for metallurgy and modern warfare. Led by their charismatic leader, Balthazar Redhand, the Iron Corsairs will be delivering their first batch of Clockwork Brigs to the shores of the Goldcoves later this month. The players lucky enough to earn, buy, or win one of these rare ships will have the earliest of opportunities to be the first Captains on the high seas, settling in and skilling up before the competition.
We’ll also be introducing a series of Season 1 collaborators, from fellow games to other NFT collections that you’ll be able to greet with a hearty hello inside of the Captain & Company game lobbies. These curated interoperable experiences are our way of reaching out to other passionate blockchain aficionados and doing our part to help grow the wider web3 ecosystem.
Details around gameplay launch windows, eligibility, and mint mechanics will be released very soon. Stay tuned!
Below, you’ll find a whole treasure trove of information about Captain & Company, digestible bits from our whitepaper, general roadmap & timeline estimations, and juicy alpha tidbits on how the economy works. We’re excited to have ye’ on board, pirate!

Roadmap
1. Becoming a Captain
If you hit the beach without a ship, you’ve got one objective in mind — find the biggest, baddest pirate crew around, jump on board, and start blasting some other poor barnacles into smithereens and stealing all their nuggies. Of course, if you’re one of the lucky few to pilfer a ship from our upcoming genesis mint, you’ll have the opportunity to get started early, well before those other landlubbers start chasing you down in their ramshackle vessels.
Once you’ve amassed enough resources to steal, create, or earn a ship and become a Captain, you’ll feel the power and responsibility of sitting behind the helm of a true leviathan of the seas, where you’re the big cheese in charge of securing the fortune and fame of your steadfast Company members. It’s your job to navigate during battle, shout orders to your crew over in-game proximity voice chat, and Tokyo drift to line up the most incredible broadside barrages imaginable.
Crucially, keep in mind that you are, in fact, still mortal, and, as a mortal with a mortal ship, you’re subject to the rules and regulations set down by Davy Jones. Ultimately, you’ll need to implore your pirates to patch up your mighty floating fortress as you’re fending off pitiful attacks from other pirates looking to recapture your ill-gotten gains. Davy Jones will not hesitate to drag you and your crew straight down to the briny deep once you’ve taken enough damage to your hull, at which point you’ll have no choice but to pay the harbormaster to repair your mighty nautical chariot, queue up again, and rain vengeance upon the poor souls that thought to ever take your precious cargo.
To the victors go the spoils, and what spoils they are!
You’ll discover new blueprints, deeds, resources, cosmetics, pets and more as you obliterate the competition off the shores of the Goldcoves. All assets that you uncover in-game will have on-chain counterparts, which means they can be easily withdrawn at your leisure and exchanged via on-chain marketplaces.1
Every savvy pirate will become a Captain after enough pillaging, racketeering, and general misbehavior, but the road will be paved with camaraderie and hard work. Your hero’s journey as both Captain and Company is a ticket to endless fortune, fame, and glory —if you can stay out of trouble for long enough.
2. The Economy of the Goldcoves
The denizens of the Goldcoves operate on one global currency — the all-important “nuggies.” You get nuggies from pillaging other players on the open sea, completing events, and participating in the greater Captain & Company ecosystem. Nuggies are exchangeable for $KAP tokens at a fixed rate, denominated in USD. And, while nuggies can be withdrawn and deposited as $KAP tokens within the game, the value of the nuggies themselves will never change, & will remain pegged to the same value in USD. So, you’ll always receive variable numbers of $KAP tokens on each withdrawal, but it’ll always be the same amount in USD terms.
Anything you do in the Goldcoves will require some combination of nuggies, resources, and potentially blueprints. Resources are stackable assets like ore, wood, and other reagents that you’ll collect from islands or downed ships while you’re out pillaging. These vary in rarity and tier, and you’ll need to venture deep to secure the highest-quality materials to construct new ships, cosmetics, and more during your time in the Goldcoves.
While Captain & Company is a blockchain-enabled game, we’ve worked hard to ensure that all web2 players will be able to complete the entire core game loop, inclusive of owning a ship. This is thanks to a robust withdrawal / deposit system that enables players to move assets into and outside of the game environment. With this, web2-type players are free to grind up their nuggies, collect their timber and ore, and ultimately mint a ship without ever needing to touch the blockchain.
We believe this to be an incredibly powerful onboarding mechanism that’s been missing in most blockchain-enabled games, and it will serve to bolster the playerbase and ultimately the value that all users will be able to engage with inside of the Captain & Company ecosystem.
Additionally, having learned many lessons from the guild-driven booms of the past, we’ll be enabling two distinct rental-type functions for Captains inside of the Goldcoves. These high-rollin’ Captains with dozens of ships, which we refer to as Admirals, will eventually have the ability to delegate control of their ships both on-chain and off-chain (in-game) to privateering players willing to pony up the repair fee plus a little extra on top for the Admiral’s trouble. This critical feature of blockchain gaming is very important to us to properly service the largescale massively multiplayer communities that we’re cultivating.
While the initial economy of the Goldcoves near launch will be primarily centered around the core combat pillaging & repair loop, a number of features are close behind that will relate to the larger pirate fantasy and core metagame of Captain & Company. Namely, we plan to explore extensive player-owned shops and archipelago-style gridded island land ownership to enable players to carve out entire sections of the game for themselves. Details around these advanced metagame systems will be divulged after the upcoming November limited play periods.
3. Flags (Guilds), Social Play, and Leaderboards
Captain & Company is a game built by gamers, for gamers. We grew up on the old greats of Runescape, World of Warcraft, EVE, Miniclip, Newgrounds, and many more. We know the incredible value that supported social multiplayer features bring, and we’re prioritizing those features for you.
At launch, you’ll already be able to compare your individual skills, scores, and pillages against other players around the globe as you all race to be the Pirate Lord of the seven seas. And, as one of our most-requested features, we’ll also be integrating rentals for Admirals and guild-type communities to rent out their ships en masse shortly after launch.
In Captain & Company, “guilds” are referred to as “flags.” Each one will bear a distinctive emblem and clan tag, in the same way as all other great games have displayed their social communities. In one of the upcoming patches after launch, guilds will have the ability to proudly display their own flag colors and insignias on top of their ships, striking fear into the hearts of opponents as they launch salvo after salvo of intense broadside attacks.
You’ll also be able to invite your friends to play with you, anytime, and anywhere, regardless of their machine. This is supported by easy quick-join QR codes that let you hop into matches with your friends or favorite streamers extremely easily, since Captain & Company loads in all modern browsers on all modern machines.
Imagine watching legendary streamers hop into a ship & ask their chat who wants to join them on a pillage, and immediately 10+ viewers can simply scan a QR code and be teleported into that streamers’ ship, ready to blast away. That’s technology that’s already integrated today, and will be live at launch!
4. Our Community
Our community is wild about pirates, and we’re wild about our community. Already we’ve had hundreds of submissions from fan fiction authors writing blurbs and blogs about the next character, mission, or sea beastie they want to see inside of Captain & Company. And we take them very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that our recent fan fiction contest will result in entirely new IP being added to the game in the next three months, and our fan art contest will result in new Discord stickers and emojis, as well as a new fun in-game pet mascot down the road!
Captain & Company is a highly social, massively multiplayer, super fun pirate party game that has community baked deeply into its core gameplay. Players have already started forming flags (“guilds”) inside of our Discord, and some have over 200 players already! These early adopters and dedicated players are very special to us, and we’ll be on the hunt for ways to reward them after launch as our way of saying thank-you for their time spent making the Goldcoves such a magical place to be.
And, last but not least, our incredible early access signup performance — we passed over 100,000+ early access signups in just two weeks after our initial announcement. This incredible performance would be strong even for a “traditional web2 game,” but it’s entirely unheard of inside of web3 gaming. We attribute this success largely to our “web2.5” focus on onboarding, with a key vector of just using user emails as opposed to wallets for viral referral campaigns and more.
If you haven’t yet hopped into our Discord, joined a crew, drawn some fan art, and proposed your next Pirates of the Carribbean-worthy fan fic, you’d best hop in soon here before all the good ships and names are taken!
