The CNC Node Sale launches tomorrow. It's the only way to generate $CNC, the lifeblood of the Captain & Company economy.

There is no pre-mine, and all tokens are generated by node holders. This is the first great fair-launch node experiment in all of web3 gaming. Every $CNC in existence will be created through nodes, and only 1,000,000 will ever exist. The maximum supply of the $CNC token is 10,000,000,000. Tokenomics here.

This is your complete guide to minting. No fluff. No filler. Just what you need to be ready when the cannon fires. Climb aboard!

Minting A Node

A video guide for this process is available in our Discord at this pin. If you are looking to create your own pool, you may use the process video pinned here.

Once the nodes go live, head to: kap.foundation/nodes.
Connect your wallet.

Make sure you’re on “Buy Nodes”.
If you have a referral code, definitely use it for that 5% rebate! Just drop the Twitter/X handle of the user who referred you. Look out for guilds, communities, or creators in the referral program. Note that the 5% rebate will be sent back to you in a few weeks, and only if the Twitter handle you add here becomes approved for the program.
Mint a node! You can choose to pay with $KAP tokens (for a 30% discount) or Ethereum.
Confirm the transaction — you’ll get a notification after hitting the mint button.

You’re set! Congrats, you now have a $CNC node!

Delegating A Node

Head to “Operate Nodes” if you want to delegate
Pick an operator! Check both the Owner Split and Node Split — they matter! The Node Split is how much you’ll be keeping of what’s mined using your nodes. Note that some guilds may give bonuses later for delegating to their pools. Once you’ve picked, click “Manage”.
From there, manage your delegation. Select how many nodes you want to assign to the pool. Again, review the pool parameters!
4. Once done, hit “Confirm” You should get a transaction notification.

Claiming $CNC

Now you’re at the good part. After your nodes have been operating for a day, go back to the Operate Nodes tab, and under the pool you’ve delegated to click “Claim.” This credits tokens to you from the pool.
To then withdraw the tokens to your wallet, head to the Claim tab in the top right. Just go to “Claim”. Enter the amount of $CNC you want to redeem, and make sure you know the redemption rates! More on that here.
Come back after your selected redemption period has passed, and select Confirm on your pending redemption to initiate the withdrawal.
You’ll be asked to select a “Minting address” of where you want the tokens sent to. Very important, make sure you enter a normal Ethereum address here, as they’ll be minted on mainnet Ethereum! Do not use an AGW as your minting address. It is OK to have your nodes in your AGW, but do not set it as the “minting address” on this page when you claim.
And that’s it! Your node keeps working while you chase glory elsewhere. Proof of work earnings ahoy!

$CNC Node Ecosystem Primer

The next great pirate adventure is about to begin! The $CNC nodes and token make landfall within the next week, with the entire force of the Captain & Company crew rallying behind them!

This is your chance to grab a piece of the expansive pirate fantasy MMO that’s headed to big web2 stores later this year, and have your voice play a very real role in the development of features, ships, and more that you want to see and play! With 100% of the $CNC token committed to node holders, this is the first great fair-launch node experiment in all of web3 gaming — climb aboard!

The CNC Token

The only way to create the $CNC token is via nodes. The $CNC token is the apex premium currency of the Captain & Company ecosystem, with four key utilities outlined below. The maximum supply of the $CNC token is 10,000,000,000.

Part of Warchest rewards are split to players who vote on faction war outcomes
$CNC balances are used for governance votes to direct new features
$CNC balances can be placed in liquidity positions (LPs) to earn extra rewards
$CNC is an ecosystem currency and may be able to be deposited into nuggies

Because all $CNC tokens are user-generated via fair launch nodes, Captain & Company will feature one of the first truly player-generated and player-owned economies in web3 gaming, and it all kicks off with the nodes.

What Are Nodes?

Nodes are user-operated servers that provide computational power to the Captain & Company ecosystem. Right now, they verify operations and emit $CNC tokens in rewards, but in the future, they may support additional on-chain game logic across a much larger network.

From a player's perspective, nodes are simple:

Nodes are the only way to generate and get $CNC
You can run them yourself using a lightweight script on almost any device
Or, you can delegate them into a pool to have other players operate for you
Unlimited node licenses can be run on a single server
No pre-mine of $CNC, every token is player-generated

Think of a node like your license to create and own a piece of the C&C economy and game itself. Each node represents your claim to that piece of game!

How Does the Launch Work?

Nodes will emit $CNC immediately after they're turned on, and a new web portal will be shared with deployment, delegation, and claim harvesting instructions. You will be able to purchase nodes on Abstract using either ETH or $KAP.

A mint page will be shared the day before the launch
Purchases can be made in ETH or $KAP on Abstract
If you purchase using $KAP, you will receive a 30% discount
All $KAP used to purchase nodes will be burnt

The launch will have three phases:

Foundation Phase: The Foundation, using its own $KAP, will purchase 150,000 nodes
Holder Phase: Holders of Ships and Skellies will be offered the ability to pre-purchase nodes at the next-available tier (starting in Tier 4); this will be coordinated before launch via holder channels and the nodes will be claimable from the node launch page
Whitelist Phase: Communities who earn whitelist spots will have a few hours to mint at the next-available tier, after the above two phases have finished
Public Phase: Any other player or third party participant can purchase at any remaining tier

33% of all ETH used to purchase nodes during the Public Phase will be contributed back to a DEX liquidity pool controlled by a third-party market maker elected by the Foundation to help support healthy on-chain dynamics.

Claiming Generated CNC

CNC generated by nodes will be claimable via a site shared on the tutorial the day before launch. The site itself will be geoblocked to the US and OFAC-sanctioned countries, but can be accessed by any other geography’s IP addresses.

$CNC emissions come with a variable claim lock schedule where users can choose to unlock a claim faster by burning a portion of that claim, with the percentage burned varying per the user’s choice below:

0-day lock: Keep 25%, burn 75%
30-day lock: Keep 50%, burn 50%
60-day lock: Keep 75%, burn 25%
90-day lock: Keep 100%, burn 0%

This model rewards long-term supporters and stabilizes emissions over time, keeping the value of CNC close to those most completely aligned with the long-term objectives of the ecosystem.

Claiming Airdropped Nodes

Users will be able to claim airdropped nodes from the same interface that they’ll use to purchase nodes next week. Note that users will be able to access the purchase / claim portal according to the phases outlined above, meaning that it is likely you will not be able to claim your airdropped nodes until the public phase.

Users will have 30 days from the time the node launch page opens to claim their airdropped nodes. Nodes left unclaimed after 30 days will be forfeited and reused in future seasons as active player incentives.

The Foundation will be purchasing 150,000 nodes at launch using its own $KAP in treasury, 50,000 of which are earmarked for the airdrop users to claim.

How to Get Involved

The CNC fair launch node sale will be kicking off sometime next week, and those looking to prep for launch should move either one or both of $KAP and ETH to their purchasing wallet. For those who have farmed substantial quantities of Airdrop Points during our long running Play to Airdrop campaign, please ensure that you have both an Abstract wallet and a primary EOA synced in your kap.gg/profile page.

A tutorial on the entire node launch will come right before launch begins next week, and, in the meantime, an exhaustive FAQ of all current community questions can be found below. Dig in!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How many nodes are there?
There will only ever be 1,000,000 nodes.

How many CNC tokens are there?
There will only ever be a maximum of 10,000,000,000 CNC tokens, all of which will be generated by the nodes.

Over what timeline or schedule will tokens be emitted from the nodes?
Each node will individually emit 10,000 CNC tokens over four years.

If a node is inactive, does that reduce its emission potential?
No. Each node can emit a total of 10,000 CNC tokens over its lifetime. If an operator chooses to turn a node off for a while and then turn it back on, the node will continue to emit until a total of 10,000 CNC tokens have been emitted from that node.

How do I run a node?
There are two ways to run a node. You can either download a server software we will provide and configure the node yourself, or you can stake the node into a delegated operator pool and allow another user to run it on your behalf, sending you back the rewards to claim, minus the operator’s chosen cut.

Are nodes NFTs, and can they be traded?
Nodes are ERC-1155 NFTs, but they are soulbound, meaning they cannot be traded for now due to regulatory constraints. The Foundation is open to revising this in the future should global regulations become more relaxed.

Will CNC be listed on a CEX?
Yes, CNC will be listed on at least on DEX and at least one CEX.

Can players stake CNC for additional rewards?
Players can create LP positions with common DEX providers and receive rewards as long as they are providing in-range v2 type liquidity. See https://kap.foundation/ for details. These rewards can include more tokens by way of in-game nuggies, or other partnered game goodies. Additionally, players will be able to vote using their CNC in-game on the winner of recurring faction wars, and earn additional nuggies based on their voting performance. So, while traditional single-sided staking is not available, there are two distinct paths to effectively staking your CNC via participation.

Can we expect any mechanics to help stabilize the price of CNC?
We do not comment on token price. However, note that 33% of all ETH used in the Public Phase portion of the node sales will be pooled by a Foundation-retained market maker against CNC in a DEX to help provide deep market availability and liquidity.

Will nodes contribute towards Abstract XP?
We do not control what counts towards Abstract XP. However, the nodes will be NFTs on the Abstract network, and the purchase + minting transactions will be Abstract contract transactions.

What chain will nodes be on, and where will they be purchased from?
Node NFTs will live on Abstract, and will be purchasable on Abstract.

Is there a cap to the maximum number of nodes a user can own or operate?
No, there is no cap. Note that if you face difficulty placing a large purchase on node launch day, break up your purchase into a few smaller batches to allow the chain to process.

What chain will CNC be on, and will it be tradeable?
CNC will be on both Abstract and Ethereum. When you claim generated CNC, it will be sent to an Ethereum wallet of your choice, which you can then bridge to Abstract. Note that claiming CNC will cost gas on the Ethereum network.

Will the token price go up as node tiers go up?
We do not have any control over the token price. However, it is likely that interest in purchasing nodes will go up as the token price goes up, meaning that a higher token price likely implies a higher marginal node tier.

How long is the node sale?
The node sale has no defined end date. The earlier you participate, the better entry price you will get on the nodes. Each tier increases the price by approximately 20%. We do not expect all 1,000,000 nodes to sell out, as that would imply an effective fully diluted valuation of over $1,000,000,000.

How do you determine the tier of nodes?
The tiers are determined based on circulating supply of the node NFTs. You can see the tier breakdown chart in the whitepaper docs here.

How do I operate my own delegation pool?
If you’re interested in running a delegation pool for other users, we’ll have a convenient UI with which you can create one shortly after nodes go live. We encourage all community members with substantial followings to create delegation pools and operate their community members’ nodes in exchange for small cuts of the generated tokens, to help improve your community’s revenue.

Will liquidity incentives be applied to CNC pools, similar to how they were applied to KAP pools?
Either in-game or partner rewards may be applied to CNC pools in the same way that KAP pools worked. You will be able to find these pools on the KAP Foundation site at https://kap.foundation/.

Will liquidity incentives be available for V3-type pools or only V2-type pools?
For now, only V2-type pools will be rewarded, as it is beyond our current engineering scope to determine a fair distribution methodology for V3-style pools. This may change in the future.

Will Blast be exited entirely for liquidity or continue?
Rewarded KAP LP pools on Blast will likely be wound down over time. Rewarded CNC pools will not be available on Blast.

Are there any early purchase bonuses or incentives for buying in early vs later tiers
Yes, there are substantial cost savings. Each tier is approximately 20% more expensive. The earlier you participate, the better your net entry will be.

Are there operational costs associated with running a node (e.g. server costs)?
If you are running your own node on a virtual private server, then, yes, the cost will be limited to the cost of that virtual private server. However, we expect the vast majority of players will simply delegate their nodes into node pools, which will operate only on a reward-sharing basis (e.g. 5-10% of rewards back to the node pool operator). These will in effect be costless for users. Note that a single server can run an unlimited number of node licenses.

Are there plans to expand node utility beyond emissions?
We may grant special roles, cosmetics, or other benefits down the line to players in-game based on nodes or governance participation, but cannot currently promise anything.

Will emissions per node decrease if more nodes come online, or is it fixed per node
It is fixed per node. All nodes will each be able to emit 10,000 CNC over their respective lifetimes.

Does owning one ship allow us to purchase the same number of nodes as multiple ships?
The holder phase is broken out by shipholder rank, meaning that those who have Admiral status (25 ships) will go first, then Vice Admirals (5 ships), then Captains (1 ship), then Skellies.

Is there a burn mechanism?
Yes, 1% of all nuggies spent in-game are burned to provide a deflationary force.

Will $CNC always be depositable for nuggies?
Maybe, but we may need to remove this feature in the future based on legal guidance and game store rulings, e.g. Steam and Epic Games requirements.

Why is the token claimed on Ethereum, but then bridged into Abstract?
This is a very nuanced technical point. Tokens have “homebases,” and when you bridge a token into a new chain, the new chain’s contract references the old chain’s contract owner. If we were to deploy the token first on Abstract and then bridge it into Ethereum, we would not be the owner of the resulting bridged token, a bridge contract would be. This causes a ton of mess down the line. Instead, we have the CNC tokens minted on Ethereum, then bridged to Abstract, so that we can properly control both contracts.

War is Coming!

Drawing from Foxhole, EVE Online, Puzzle Pirates, and WoW’s Western Plaguelands towers, we’re transforming C&C into a persistent online naval warfare MMORPG where two factions battle endlessly for control of the seas. This war is fought over territory, resources, and dominance, while players progress through crafting, perks, and skill mastery to carve out their own legend.

🗺️ The Map – A Constant Battleground

The world remains vast but structured, split into two symmetrical factions with strategic towers, ports, and resource nodes scattered across the map.

Factions: The Sea Wolves (Blue) claim one half, while the Iron Corsairs (Red) hold the other.
Territory Control: Towers act as capture points, positioned slightly off-center on each faction’s side, creating hot zones of conflict.
Resource Nodes:
- Cloth spawns on the Sea Wolves’ side
- Lumber spawns on the Iron Corsairs’ side
- Ore is found along the neutral meridian, ensuring central skirmishes.
Enemy NPCs & Bosses emerge from the central no-man’s waters, adding unpredictable elements to the battlefield.
Wind Direction: Always flows toward the center, reinforcing the battlefront.
Extraction points are permanently fixed at each port, rather than shifting.

🎯 Objective – The Fight for Towers

The battle for control revolves around capturing and holding towers across the map.

Proximity-Based Control: When ships linger near a tower, they add capture points to its status.
Faster Capture with Numbers: The greater the ship advantage, the faster the capture rate.
Capture Bar:
- Towers range from -1,000 (fully Blue-controlled) to +1,000 (fully Red-controlled).
- If a faction has 5 ships and no defenders, it would take 200 minutes to flip a tower from max enemy control to theirs.
Passive Recovery: If a tower is unoccupied, it slowly reverts toward its original faction at a rate of 1 point per minute.

This dynamic ensures battles are won by strategy and persistence, not brute force alone.

🎏 Factions – Choose Your Allegiance

The Iron Corsairs (Red) – Engineers of chaos and architects of destruction, the Iron Corsairs see the sea as their laboratory, testing volatile inventions, unstable weaponry, and impossible machines—all in the relentless pursuit of progress.
The Sea Wolves (Blue) – A floating storm of madness, fire, and laughter, the Sea Wolves raid with reckless abandon, turning every battle into a spectacle of destruction.

🛠️ Resource Gathering – No Game Is Complete Without Fishing!

Resource collection is reimagined with an interactive fishing system that rewards players with valuable materials.

Fishing Nodes: Resource hotspots marked on the map.
Gathering Method: Players interact with fishing poles on their ship, triggering a reflex-based classic fishing minigame.
Resource Types:
- Clothfish (Blue-side)
- Lumberfish (Red-side)
- Orefish (Central no-man’s waters)
Refining Removed: No longer needed—resources go directly into ship cargo upon collection.

🏦 Lobbies – The Frontline of War

Each battle is a massive, faction-driven fight, but even the seas have their limits.

Max Lobby Size: 120 players each.
Ship Limits: A max of 8 ships per faction active at a time. These limits will be adjusted as new ship types are added.
Joining a Battle:
- Players can auto-queue into a faction ship or join specific crews via invite codes.
- Captains must own a ship to launch, and when setting sail must fill their hold with a few resources as a repair fee escrow—lose the ship, lose half the fee; extract, get it back.
Regional Servers: Four lobbies at launch (2 US, 2 SEA).

🏝️ Land – Betting on the Tides of War

Owning land in the Goldcoves isn’t just about having a stake in the fight—it’s a high-stakes skilled wager on the tides of war. With only two main faction-controlled islands, landowners are making a bold bet on who will dominate the seas when the battle ends.

Two Islands, Two Factions – Each faction controls a single island, serving as a stronghold, rally point, and economic hub for its war efforts.
Limited Ownership – Each island holds only 100 land plots, making ownership exclusive and high-value.
The Warchest Payout – At the end of each season, landowners of the winning faction split a percentage of the Warchest, rewarding those who backed the right side.

But holding land isn’t just about waiting for a payday. Keeping land active requires upkeep, and that means resource management and strategic planning.

📜 Managing Land

Landowners aren’t just passive investors—they actively contribute to the war effort through the Royal Management system, a new in-game interface for overseeing land operations.

Daily Resource Stocking – Each day, landowners must supply their land with resources (lumber, cloth, ore) to keep it operational.
Land Burn Mechanic – If resources aren’t supplied, the land stops generating rewards, and the owner's stake in the Warchest weakens over time. If a landowner fails to upkeep their land for a certain amount of time, it will be automatically auctioned off to the highest bidder.
War Economy Influence – The more active a landowner is in supplying their faction, the greater their share of the final Warchest split.

💠 Land Crystals & Plot Creation

All existing land crystals will be compressed into a single universal currency—Land Crystals—which are required to craft and claim land plots.

Crafting a Land Plot requires some number of Land Crystals.
Players can choose which island to claim land on, up to the island’s 100-plot max.
Once claimed, land is locked to that faction permanently.

🔰 Guilds

Guilds are expanding to become social hubs for players to casually group up, without economic implications.

Guild leaders will choose a faction for the guild. You can only belong to a guild of the same faction as yours.
Guild multipliers and treasury bonuses will be discontinued, and a new, more casual guild quest will be introduced that is identical for all users in any guild to simplify onboarding.
Guild-specific events, tags, and titles may be introduced in the future.

🔱 Port Missions

Port missions will remain, and will be one way to earn doubloons to claim a portion of the Warchest.

Players who hold higher numbers of ship cards will receive a discount on ship reroll costs, effectively multiplying their reward efficiency.
Port missions will not currently be completable by ordinary seasonal ships, meaning that ship cards, for now, have a monopoly on the rewards from Port Missions.
Skellies can continue to complete Port Missions at a lesser reward rate than ship cards.

👾 NPCs – The Wild Cards

Three categories of NPCs will populate the world:

Faction NPCs – AI-controlled ships that patrol respective faction sides, allegiant to members.
- Sea Wolves (Blue): Stormwolf NPCs
- Iron Corsairs (Red): Ironchime NPCs
Bosses – Appear every 30 minutes in neutral waters.
- One of three bosses (Thalassor, Murktide, Gossamera) is randomly selected.
- Spawns with three Sirens as bodyguards.
Invasions – Instead of a boss, a random NPC horde (15 ships) spawns, actively hunting players.
Training Mobs – Low-level Skeleton Archers and Raider Ships patrol islands near each port for newcomers to practice on.

⌛ Timegates – Pacing the War

To prevent early snowballing, certain gameplay elements unlock gradually:

Day 1: Towers cannot be captured; ships & perks are locked.
Day 2: Sloop-class ships become craftable.
Day 3: Perks become craftable, and towers become fully capturable.
Day 4: Brig-class ships become craftable.
Day 5: Man-o’-War ships become craftable.

📜 Progression & Rewards

Character Progression:

Players level up through Talents & Perks, gaining advantages based on play style.
Resource drop rates increased, making progression more accessible.
Talents reset at the end of each epoch—but individual skill levels stay (e.g., a Level 61 Gunner remains Level 61).

Faction War Rewards:

The Warchest is filled with collected crafting fees & nuggies from the war.
The winning faction doubles its in-game earned doubloons at the season’s end.
Players receive rewards based on their doubloons from the faction war.

Other Rewards:

Landowners of the winning faction receive a share of the Warchest.
Shipholders can delegate ships to other players for rewards.
Port missions receive doubloons to claim a share of the Warchest.

With territory control, faction-wide battles, and deep customization, C&C evolves into a world where every battle leaves its mark. Will you fight for control, dominate the seas, or burn everything in your wake?

Piracy, Remastered

Captain & Company is preparing an entirely new game mode & economy for all o’ ye scallywags! We’re evolving into a more player-friendly and reward-driven structure, and the overhaul coming to the core Pillage game mode described below is how we propose to get there. Climb aboard!

The Big Picture

Being a pirate is about exploring the open sea, stealing loot from foes, and battling alongside friends in massively multiplayer naval skirmishes. We feel that the current gameplay has deviated too far from this core fantasy for a number of reasons that we’ll get to at the end of this post. To resolve that, we’re proposing a colossal adjustment to the core gameplay and economy that we expect will result in substantially more player and trader interest in the game, and better prepare us to list on Google Play, Epic Games, and others.

Core features proposed include:

Creating a two-faction system in the game (e.g. like WoW’s Alliance vs Horde)
Changing the main map to be split into two sides with capture points on each side
Changing the core game mode to be a persistent two-sided war (e.g. like Foxhole)
Resetting all crafted items at the beginning of each war for fresh start gameplay
Adding a huge reward pot for the winners of the war funded by crafting fees & airdrops

In short, this proposal will transform C&C from an endless airdrop farming simulator where issuing new ships would be dilutive to holders (which is the game’s current state), into a self-sustaining recurring MMORPG war between player sides, with substantially more multiplayer team deathmatch-style combat, ship variation, and reward potential. This means we’ll be adding more ships, more objectives, and faster progression.

This blog is accompanied by a shipholder vote, which can be found here. If the vote passes, the game mode and changes outlined here will go in over the next few weeks, all at the same time when they happen. The date will be communicated ahead of time.

Over the past two years, shipholders have enjoyed a huge plethora of benefits, with the majority of purchases well above-water for return on investment due to partner airdrop farming campaigns that we brought to holders, with the total sum of value we’ve enabled exceeding $2,000,000+ USD. You can view that historical performance here.

We’ll dive into each of the proposed changes individually, and then we’ll break out the rationale that got us here at the end of the blog.

Faction War

The new Pillage mode proposal would transform it into a faction war between two sides: the Iron Corsairs and the Sea Wolves. Both sides would be vying for territory control to ultimately claim the Warchest, a huge pot of treasure and rewards split out to the players. We were inspired by a combination of WoW Classic’s Alterac Valley and Foxhole’s endless wars to create a mode that would drive players to engage in high ship-count, high player-count team deathmatch battles with strategic economic depth and rapid, fulfilling progression.

All players would start at the same level ground, with nothing. “Back to the beach” in a raft, for everyone, literally. We’d be introducing a new ship, the “Dinghy,” a single-player, single-seat, single-cannon, low-HP rowboat, and the “Raft”, a single-player, single-seat, low-HP platform ship. Players would venture out and collect resources at various resource nodes by fishing up resource-laden fish and taking them back to their own faction’s port, eventually accruing enough to be able to craft a ship (e.g. a classic Clockwork Brig, or other ship blueprint recipes we release). Once they’ve crafted a ship, they’d set out and either farm more resources to create more ships to sell to other players, or they’d aggressively try to take capture points from the enemy, or slay the boss in the center for a chance at rare loot.

The game mode is 24/7, meaning the lobbies are always open, and the war would last until one side had captured all towers on the map. Then, the Warchest rewards would be split out to players, and the game would reset, sending everyone back to the beach in a rowboat. We would expect these wars to last for potentially weeks, and we would make balance decisions along the way to get to that kind of a result.

You can see an early drawing of our lead’s concept for the mode here. The mode would be extensible, so adding new objectives, bigger ships, more supply lines, and more progression would be possible.

New Ships and Progression

While it is true that we already have an extensive talent and perk progression system, and technically new players are able to save up and craft a ship on their own, in reality almost no one is completing these objectives due to them being too complicated, too time consuming, or too expensive. We feel that is antithetical to the free spirit of piracy we want to cultivate, and will not be palatable to a mainstream audience.

Instead, this economic and gameplay shift will enable us to overhaul progression dramatically and ensure that all players are constantly growing in power every time they log into the game, like a traditional MMORPG. There will be three primary progression loops:

Collecting resources and blueprints to craft bigger, better, and different ships
Leveling up your character to collect talent points
Crafting and min-maxing builds via the perk system to outwit opponents

For old hat players, what you should immediately understand is that we want more ships. We want Man-O’-Wars, we want sloops, cutters, junks, steam frigates, and all other manner of fantastical nautical vehicles. We want you to have a plethora of options to choose from and for those to be strategically tactical as you help your faction push for glorious victory and claim the Warchest.

If the proposal passes, we’ll be immediately adding the Wraith Brig, the Dinghy, and the Raft as playable ships to the game, and more will follow.

The blueprint system will change slightly. Blueprints will become consumable one-time account unlocks that allow a player to always craft that ship in all future seasons. You will no longer need a blueprint every time you craft a ship. This will also apply to perks, where blueprints will be a one-time unlock and you will only require resources to craft that perk in the following seasons.

Resource Collection and Fishing

Every good game needs fishing! There’s no better way that we can imagine to collect resources than by hauling up resource-laden fish from the depths, and that’s exactly what you’ll be doing the first time that you spawn into the new mode in a rowboat.

While resources will still drop from certain NPCs, we’ll be largely removing the swarms of NPCs as you know them now in the current gameplay. Instead, those NPCs will participate in random invasions, but no longer be a centerpiece of core combat, more of a side quest.

Fishing will instead be the “passive farming” loop, which frankly is just a well-deserved stress-free break from the thrills of piracy. Because the map will be divided into two faction sides, and because friendly fire will be off, you’ll be able to potentially farm in peace without pirates coming and attacking you (maybe, no promises). But because we hate bots, there will of course be the occasional shark that wants to give your ship a friendly boop, which may or may not send you to the bottom of the ocean.

What Will the Core Loop Become?

The core progression loop we envision looks something like this:

Start your first gameplay session on your own in a rowboat with a single cannon, and fish peacefully for some resources
Depending on if you’re rushing Day 1 of the war:
1. If you’re rushing, then you’ll keep farming resources until you personally have enough to craft a bigger combat ship, or you’ll pool with your guild
2. If you’ve joined slightly later, you may opt to join a crew instead as Company on an existing combat ship
You’ll set out and head to the enemy faction’s control point towers, engaging in massively multiplayer team deathmatch combat alongside your friendly faction’s ships and attempt to capture the control point
Along the way you’ll level up and gain talent points, further increasing your combat potential
You’ll also discover perk blueprints and potentially new ship blueprints, both also presenting opportunities to craft and increase your combat potential
You’ll (hopefully) eventually win the war alongside your faction mates, and, depending on your performance, split out the Warchest rewards
You’ll unlock new ship recipes, cosmetics, pets (potentially), titles, and badges as you participate in more wars over time

This loop is simple and compelling, and follows the natural demands of players we get constantly — let us build bigger and better ships and blow stuff up. And, because the new economic proposal would have the entire economy reset at the end of each war, you’d then have the chance to do it all again (even better) the next time. Plus, given the relative simplicity of the loop, and the fact that new ships will not dilute old ships any longer, we’ll be able to focus on adding new and zany power spikes and ships for players to experiment with during the wars.

What About Our Old Ships & Items?

We’re proposing an exchange for all old ships and items that will convert them into useful ecosystem assets. Keep in mind that in order to add the above gameplay dynamics, we must reset the economy fully at the end of each faction war. Otherwise, we will not be able to consistently add new assets and drive crafting fees into new prize pools.

If the proposal passes, then the below will take effect sometime in the next few weeks, which will align with the $CNC node sale launch.

Every current Clockwork Brig would be swapped for:

1x permanent Pirate Pass code (est. value $20/mo saved in perpetuity)
1x Clockwork Brig Blueprint (can be used to unlock the recipe on an account)
10x $CNC nodes which will begin producing $CNC
A permanent cosmetic hat representing your Clockwork Brig OG status
A number of land crystals
2x paint items to unlock the colors of the ship as options in-game

Every current Wraith Brig would be swapped for:

1x permanent Pirate Pass code (est. value $20/mo saved in perpetuity)
1x Wraith Brig Blueprint (can be used to unlock the recipe on an account)
100x $CNC nodes which will begin producing $CNC
A permanent cosmetic hat representing your Wraith Brig OG status
10x the number of land crystals assigned to the Clockwork Brigs

Every current Clockwork Lootbox would be swapped for:

2x $CNC nodes which will begin producing $CNC
A number of land crystals

Every other resource would be swapped for:

The value of held assets in each account would be summed, and, if great enough to exceed the value of a Clockwork Brig, would be swapped for an equivalent number of $CNC nodes as they are valued in terms of Clockwork Brigs
A number of land crystals, if sufficient assets held

The net result of this will be a complete wipe of the existing in-game economy & a transfer of value to a) the $CNC nodes and b) in-game bonuses, all of which would enable us to transform gameplay dramatically. At the time of conversion, the value of the assets swapped for ships may easily exceed their spot market price, depending on how long you utilize the granted Pirate Pass for and the ultimate price of $CNC. We cannot make any guarantee that the assets swapped for will be any more liquid or valuable than the current assets, but as a general rule, standard tokens are more liquid than NFTs.

Ship colors will become itemized, and you’ll be able to consume a paint item to unlock that color for your account, which can then be applied to your ships. Paints are intended to be rare, and shipholders will control this initial supply. If the proposal passes, ship trading will continue to be live before the final snapshot. At the time of the snapshot, all assets will be converted and credited simultaneously.

Skellies and cosmetic items will remain as they are, as they are not economic gameplay components and do not require adjustment. Blueprints will also remain.

$CNC, Player Governance, & Ownership

Because the $CNC nodes and token will play such a large role in the new economy, it’s important to explain exactly what the token will be doing. There are four key utilities the $CNC token will have:

A percentage of the in-game Warchest rewards will go to $CNC holders who vote correctly for who the winning faction will be of each faction war. This model is similar to Karate Combat’s “Up Only Gaming” model, in which you are not losing tokens if you bet the wrong side, but you are gaining rewards (from the Warchest) if your bet is correct. This will be done from inside the game.
The tokenholders will be able to vote directly on new features & adjustments to the game, sent directly to the engineers by way of Snapshot votes. A small number of features are off-limits, but, otherwise, the intention is to allow the players to control the game — a truly decentralized studio.
The token will be used to measure assets held for the guild quest bonuses, and other bonuses across the ecosystem.
The token will be convertible to nuggies, and, when nuggies are withdrawn, they become $CNC. All purchases in the C&C ecosystem can be made by using $CNC.

In sum, the token will have direct in-game rewards, governance, and spending utilities from launch. Meaning that the nodes that you receive for your ships during the swap that will ultimately produce $CNC will help you accomplish each of the above objectives, all while allowing the game to explore substantially more vibrant gameplay dynamics.

Rationale for the Changes

This is a ton of changes, all at once. The blockchain-enabled gaming market moves very quickly, and we’ve been keeping close tabs on the narratives and gameplay loops that are and are not working in the space. Overwhelming, “blue chip” style “forever” gameplay-impacting NFTs in gaming have performed abhorrently, with the majority taking massive value hits over the past year. Those teams are also stuck with initial promises to their communities that can never be fulfilled, because enough value likely can never be created to prop back up those assets while simultaneously creating revenue for the development studio to continue.

This is a vicious cycle, leading more users to dump the assets which makes it harder for developers to, in turn, create new features and drive new trading to provide additional value. The net result is that those studios may have to close.

We are proposing a fundamentally different fate. NFTs are a phenomenal method to enable user ownership, decentralized trading, and governance. But what they are not are infinitely cash-flowing pots of gold, and, without constant new influxes of narratives and marketing campaigns and “KOL”-driven pushes, it is not possible to maintain sufficient trading volume to keep speculators happy.

By performing this conversion & reset, we instead will be changing the game to revolve around “natural hype cycles,” as each new faction war can potentially come with completely different rules, ships, NFTs, rewards, and more. All of that will drive additional on-chain activity and incentives to participate in an attempt to win the Warchest. The Warchest is filled with the crafting fees from that player activity, as well as subsidized with third-party partner rewards (like Abstract XP and other potential advertising sponsors per war).

This is substantially more sustainable than us simply relying on airdrop farming campaigns or infinitely diluting our own holders with more token emissions or NFT drops. We have already begun scoping for the new gameplay mode, and will likely be able to deliver the initial version within a month if the proposal passes.

In conclusion here, our objectives are to:

Immediately swap existing NFTs for a potentially similar or greater value of ecosystem assets
Open gameplay design and rewards possibilities substantially
Drive higher interest and speculative hype cycles through recurring wars in a new mode

We see a higher probability for upside here than downside, with a serious chance that the new, faster, more rewarding & more web2-palatable gameplay & economy may drive Captain & Company to the top of the collective gaming charts. Ahoy, pirates! Here we be celebratin’ the long history of Captain & Company and our jolly crew who’ve collected mountains o’ gold during our past adventures. Over the past seasons, we’ve seen incredible growth and rewards for those who’ve joined the journey. Players, shipholders, and early adopters alike have been actively rewarded, with their time, effort, and strategy directly translating into real, tangible benefits. Here’s a look back at the amazing journey so far!

Seasonal Performance Snapshots:

Piracy is all about catering to the strongest bidder or sharpest shooter, and historically we’ve distributed rewards based on player performance, staking, and NFT ownership. Note that the below is a historical recounting of events and is neither a promise nor indication of any amount of future results or returns. Here’s how things stacked up season by season:

Piracy was fresh and new, and top players saw huge returns, with some pocketing $50,000, and even many everyday players earning between $250 and $7,500. Plus, players earned substantial portions of C&C’s upcoming land drop, with portions of the claim being issued to each season’s players.

By Season 2, the Blast Gold farm had somewhat cooled, but rewards remained substantial and consistent. With a fairer conversion rate, players were still able to earn impressive amounts—$35 to $7,000 each over the course of the season, depending on how actively they participated. And again, serious ownership of the game’s land mechanics were granted to these players, with another 1/3rd being reserved for them.

Season 3:

Total Allocation: $576,700+
Distribution Breakdown:
- Players: 60% → $346,000
- Shipholders: 20% → $115,300
- Stakers: 15% → $86,500
- PFP Holders: 5% → $28,800
C&C Land Ownership Granted: 33%

Season 3 is still continuing, and results on Blast were a mixed bag, with a number of players still capturing major treasure hauls but fewer wins for the minnows. Currently, in Season 3, C&C has moved to Abstract to participate in their XP drop program, which thus far has had an indeterminate but promising yield. And, ultimately, the final tranche of the first set of lands was reserved for the Season 3 / early Abstract players, with 1/3rd being set aside.

What’s the Difference Between mXP and Abstract XP?

Abstract XP is the core reward system for users and projects within Abstract Chain. Abstract recognizes engagement, achievements, and contributions across various dApps. Abstract XP is earned through interacting with dApps, trading, and engaging in the ecosystem. It’s a broad rewards system designed to boost activity across the chain
mXP is earned through specifically playing Captain and Company via in-game or idle mission tasks. It’s a reflection of your total participation inside of the game, and it converts into some amount of Abstract XP each Tuesday

True pirates will find big opportunities to participate across the entire Abstract ecosystem, and can come back to Captain & Company as their daily homebase to pick up even more XP.

How to Earn mXP?

Play & Interact: sink foes on the open sea or complete port missions
Quests: complete in-game tasks as you play
Guild: create a guild and invite players, taking a portion of their earnings as bonus

It’s as easy as that. No overthinking required, just hop into the game and get to pillaging the high seas, battling cutthroat raiders, gathering with your guildmates, and looting treasures. Or send yer ships and skellies on faraway adventures to passively collect loot while you're away from the keyboard.

Converting mXP to Abstract XP

The exact formula for the conversion process between mXP and Abstract XP is dynamic and will not be set in stone each week.

dApps on Abstract will have Abstract XP distributed to their users weekly
The amount of Abstract XP dApp communities will receive from Abstract may vary over time
The amount of Abstract XP you earn from Captain & Company is proportional to how much mXP you have minted in the past week versus all other players

The mXP you earn and loot in C&C will not immediately reflect in the Abstract portal. First, weekly calculations are done to compare how much mXP you earned versus other players, and then from there you’ll be awarded your XP during Abstract’s weekly issuances (usually on Tuesdays). The best way to earn Abstract XP by playing Captain & Company is simply to outcompete other players and collect more loot and finish more quests than they do!

What’s the Play-to-Nodedrop Campaign?

This is your chance to play to earn a piece of the Captain & Company ecosystem, where you earn nodes that will emit the total supply of circulating CNC tokens. Note: An "unused ship" is a ship that hasn’t been used by a delegatee yet that day. So, if a guild has 5 ships but 6 people delegating, the first 5 delegatees to log in and earn rewards will "use" those 5 ships. The 6th person will still have the F2P cap for that day.

This also means that you should continue to expect rough edges, as we will need to work quickly to implement community feedback. Uncouth scallywags will not be tolerated in our servers, as it’ll take a full fleet of passionate pirates to make landfall. Our developers below deck are small but mighty, so blow some positive wind in their sails!

$CNC Token

The $CNC token, created by the Kapital Foundation, is an extremely unique community-centric digital asset that gives players even greater voice in the Captain & Company ecosystem, as well as access to extensive discounts and purchasing power.

The tokenomics of $CNC are robust and straightforward.

100% of the token supply is committed to community nodes, which will emit over 4 years, designed to be similar to the way Bitcoin actually works.
33% of ETH used to purchase nodes during the public phase is committed back to the public $CNC-ETH liquidity pool, effectively helping secure the liquidity floors.
There is no pre-mine or pre-allocation of tokens to the team or investors, all team members and investors will participate in the sale on their own.
The $CNC token has immediate utility in the live game and is used for all premium purchases and on-chain crafting costs. Every item in the game is looted and crafted on-chain in our MMORPG.
Participating in the C&C ecosystem is a double-efficiency farm ($CNC + mXP), as players also gain exposure to farming Abstract XP. mXP is earned specifically by playing Captain & Company through in-game or idle mission tasks. It reflects your overall participation in the game and converts into a certain amount of Abstract XP.

The in-game utility of $CNC builds on other successful gaming currency models, driven primarily by actual user demand and tied to bonding curves for all assets:

$CNC can be deposited into the game as a premium currency, nuggies.
That currency (nuggies) is used to pay all crafting fees.
All in-game marketplace transactions are denominated in that currency.
Players are granted voting power proportional to their $CNC and nuggies.

This implies that $CNC is the most direct unit of value inside of the Captain & Company ecosystem, as its utilization is explicitly tied to the volume of activity within the game itself. Furthermore, as there is no pre-mine of the supply, and 100% of such supply will be created by the nodes operated by holders, this is a truly fair launch gaming token.

For holders of $KAP, additional details around its role in the node launch will be explained closer to launch. The KAP Games whitepaper has already been updated with some of the details, importantly that $KAP will be a valid currency to be used in the upcoming node sale, and burned when used. More specifics later!

How to Earn the Airdrop

Players earn the airdrop by navigating to their https://kap.gg/profile page and completing the quests listed there to earn Airdrop Points (AP), which grant players $CNC nodes each time they complete a full AP experience bar. These non-transferrable node license NFTs will be sent out at approximately the same time all other node license NFTs are sold and sent out, to ensure a fair community distribution.

Players earn AP by:

(50% of AP) Playing Captain & Company. Players can simply farm AP by finishing quest objectives, destroying mobs, and hunting down other players!
(35% of AP) Stake or Hold NFTs. Players can passively farm AP by staking at https://kap.gg/staking or by holding our Ship or Skellie NFTs!
(10% of AP) Contribute to Development. Creative players can propose lore, design features, write Wiki articles, and create tutorials to earn discretionary AP! Send your ideas in the #worldbuilding channel in our Discord.
(5% of AP) Rep Your Community. If you’re a member of certain partnered communities, you also earn passive AP daily! In addition, we measure all wallets’ “diamond handed-ness” and grant some amount of AP to certain quality players just for being good web3 citizens.

Most importantly, refer other users! You’ll earn 5% of all the AP that they earn, and you’ll earn 5% of all in-game rewards they earn, forever! Refer enough users and you’ll capture all the benefits of playing Captain & Company without ever having to fire a single cannon shot. True piracy, yarrgh!

The airdrop campaign will consist of four different phases that match the Early Access Prelaunch roadmap (see blog here), each potentially as short as a week or as long as a few weeks, pending both development time and market conditions. Our buccaneers below deck estimate it may be as little as a month or two out, though, so each week is precious time to gather up as many nodes as possible!

What Are Nodes, How Do They Work?

Nodes are user-operated servers that perform some amount of computational work on behalf of a distributed network. As Captain & Company is a fully on-chain game, there is the possibility that at some point in the future such nodes may be responsible for running the actual on-chain game logic elements of C&C.

From a user perspective, the most important things you need to know are:

All $CNC tokens are created by running nodes
You will be able to run the nodes yourself in a simple script on almost any device, or use our partner Nodeops.xyz to run your nodes automatically
You will be able to stack many node licenses in one node server
The team will participate in the node launch sale alongside players to purchase their own nodes for ecosystem rewards

Note that recent Twitter discourse around nodes has been mixed, as many projects have chosen to release only a fraction of their token supply to their nodeholders (e.g. 10-15%). We are dramatically different. 100% of token emissions are going to nodeholders in what will become web3 gaming’s first fair launch node drop.

Distributed ownership via computational commitment is foundational to the crypto space, and both BTC and ETH are founded on similar precepts. Over time, the nodes support stronger decentralization of the network and a commitment by participants to support the project’s computational requirements.

More details related to the node launch sale will be released closer to that time!

Community Polls

Captain & Company is a fully community-driven MMORPG that directly implements player feedback and game direction via a polling system modeled after similar community-driven MMORPGs, like Old School Runescape. Participating in a vote and proposing a winning vote are two ways to earn the “Contribute to Development” pile of AP listed above.

Voting

Polls are proposed in the #worldbuilding channel in Discord and then formally voted on via Snapshot. Polls will be created when the community, through open dialogue and debate, autonomously pushes forward an idea for a vote. Polls will later be conducted in-game via the Polling Booth, which will be added later.

Votes must pass a 70% threshold of affirmative votes to be deemed successful and incorporated into the engineering roadmap.

Voting Chips and Player Classes

There are two voting classes in Captain & Company:

Players, which include any user that earns any type of in-game loot or reward.
Asset holders, which include any user that holds nuggies or $CNC.

Each time a poll is hosted, all users are issued “Voting Chips.”

Every player who gained at least 10k XP in the month preceding a vote receives 100 Voting Chips, which will be 2/3 of total Voting Chips.
Asset holders as a class are allocated 1/3 of the total Voting Chips, and every asset holder receives voting chips proportional to the value of their owned assets.

This strikes a balance between allowing smaller users to express their opinion while still valuing the important position that asset holders occupy in the game economy.

Scope of Allowable Polls

There are certain feature requests that our engineering team will not be able to implement in a short enough period of time to make them worthwhile for the community to pursue. These include:

Land-based combat
Boarding enemy ships
Swimming between ships
Other features the team deems to be out of scope

Participating in the community polls allows players to directly guide the course of feature prioritization and craft Captain & Company into the pirate MMORPG they want to see. Contribute your ideas to the #worldbuilding channel and earn AP and have your name etched into history forever!

Community Wiki

The majority of the data for the game will be stored in a community wiki hosted at wiki.capnco.gg. All players are invited to constructively contribute to maintaining the data stored there as Captain & Company expands into a global MMORPG. The players who are tasked with overseeing this maintenance are called Sages, and given a special role in the Discord.

You can earn AP for your contributions to the wiki when they are approved by a Sage. Reach out to a Sage in our Discord to learn more about contributing.

Concluding Remarks

The Captain & Company airdrop campaign is unique with a purely community-driven fair launch gaming token powered by a user-operated node network, with tokenholders and players jointly gaining the ability to directly govern some level of development direction of the game itself.

Ahoy, pirates! Captain & Company will soon be launching in Early Access across multiple platforms! The swabbies below deck have cooked up a veritable treasure trove of new features for you, and you’ll be exploring those brave new worlds starting this week. Dig in!

Early Access Roadmap

Captain & Company will soon enter Early Access on key game stores across mobile, PC, and browser. We’ve spent this last voyage constructing new progression mechanics, new game modes, additional economic meta-systems, and completely new backend technologies to bring our community to the cutting edge of gaming.

The Early Access Prelaunch patch will roll out in four phases over the coming few weeks. Initially playable will be the complete in-game on-chain economy expansion, where encounters now drop on-chain loot, as well as the talent progression and player level system.

In Phase II, this will then be followed by the new game mode, Gauntlet, additional progression systems, and more player-driven crafting. In Phase III, we’ll be adding the world bosses, the land ownership mechanics, and the island governance system. And, finally, in Phase IV, we’ll be listing on the game stores, launching the community-controlled nodes and design poll features, and taking C&C to peak pirate MMORPG performance!

Gauntlet

Captain Balthazar Redhand has a challenge for the bravest seadogs amongst ye — reach the pinnacle of piracy by conquering the Gauntlet, a new endless roguelite PvE co-op trial!

Team up with friends to battle endless waves of new enemies, including fearsome nautical bosses paced throughout your run
Collect, mix, and match temporary Perks to unlock incredible naval firepower as you blast your way through hordes of attackers
Loot resources, blueprints, crystals & more as you conquer the higher tiers of Gauntlet and prove your name on the leaderboard

Gauntlet is a new permanent game mode that’s designed to be approachable for both casual parties of players and hardcore competitive sorts that want to climb to the top of the scoreboards. The mode is reminiscent of other horde-based game modes with three twists:

Co-op matchmaking is enabled and encouraged
Users can “weight” the probabilities of perks that will show up during their runs via a new Perk Card progression system
Users will gain resources and blueprints they can use to further improve their performance in Gauntlet

In combination with other new progression mechanics detailed below, Gauntlet will be a completely new casual & competitive mode for pirates to invite their friends to dominate!

Pillage

The previous “Adventure” mode has now been renamed “Pillage” to more accurately reflect the direction we will be taking with our second permanent game mode.

Players will enter an open sea arena and battle a mix of enemies and world bosses as they collect resources, finish quests, and level up skills
World PvP is permanently on with no safe zones, and players will need to extract via an extraction portal to keep the loot they’ve collected

We’ll be carefully monitoring feedback to this mode, and may be making any assortment of community-recommended changes as we go forward, including potentially:

Increasing the map size and environmental diversity
Including Perks in Pillage mode, with certain drawbacks
Adding additional world bosses or enemy types

Pillage is a mode that has a ton of open-world potential, and we’ve now created a number of the systems we need to properly implement and scale community-led feedback initiatives to make improvements much more quickly going forward.

Talent System

Players each now have a Player Level, which is determined by the amount of total XP you’ve gained across all of your skills in total (e.g. Gunning, Navigating, Sailing, etc).

Players can grow to level 60, and earn one (1) talent point for each level
Players can choose to allocate talent points to any mix of talents in the Tactician, Demolitionist, or Tinker specialization trees
As players allocate more points to any one particular specialization, more powerful talents become unlocked in that specialization tree

The talent system encourages players to spend more time focusing on one account, rather than potentially spreading their efforts between multiple accounts. We will introduce the ability to refund (”respec”) talent points in the future, but note at launch that talent point allocations will be permanent for some time.

The talent system will apply to all game modes: Gauntlet, Deathmatch, and Adventure.

Perk System

Players now each have a personal Perk Deck, which they’ll populate using perk cards that they either buy from other players or craft during the course of collecting resources in gameplay.

Perk cards are crafted by combining specific perk blueprints with designated resources
When a player adds a perk card to their Perk Library, the card is burnt and consumed
Players choose a Perk Deck of 12 perks from their Perk Library to use inside of Gauntlet
The perk cards in your Perk Deck weight the probability of those perks appearing in-game

The Perk Deck system gives players some control over the random nature of per-wave Gauntlet rewards, and, in combination with the Talent system, allows players to begin to specialize in the forms of combat, leadership, or support that they prefer, driving more diverse gameplay outcomes and party-based play.

At launch, the perk system will apply only to Gauntlet, and perks will not be active in Pillage or Deathmatch modes. Perk cards and their associated blueprints will disappear at the end of each season, so make sure to use them early!

Auction House

Players will be able to trade game assets via a new in-game auction house, priced in nuggies.

Players can place buy or sell orders, which are filled on a best-efforts basis
Players can withdraw assets from their game account and trade on public marketplaces if they wish, but the entire game economy can be played now from within the game client
Both Eastern and Western servers will share a single auction house database, meaning you can trade with your friends in the opposite server

Moving the auction house in-game means that players can now directly monetize their gameplay experience if they so choose, and can earn by farming various resources and rare assets to sell. Some assets are consumable, like perk cards, and will have persistent demand, while others are highly limited in supply and may be collected by determined connoisseurs, like cosmetics.

This technology is identical to the way that major hit Off the Grid recently implemented their own in-game marketplace, best explained by popular FPS streamer Shroud here.

Nuggies & Withdrawals

Nuggies are now subdivided into two categories, normal nuggies and “blessed nuggies.”

Normal nuggies are obtained via purchase, and are not eligible for direct withdrawal to digital assets
Blessed nuggies are obtained by selling assets in the marketplace or earning them via most other game mechanics, and are eligible for direct withdrawal
Normal nuggies are always consumed first by default for any purchase or game action

Players will see only their combined balance of nuggies in-game, and normal nuggies will always be spent before blessed nuggies for all purposes. You can view your balance of normal nuggies and blessed nuggies in the Currencies tab of your profile on kap.gg/profile. Players must have a Pirate Pass and have passed Verification KYC to withdraw blessed nuggies.

When players earn items in the game, the items are stored in their KAP Vault, a new backend inventory system that helps us perform blockchain transactions on behalf of players. Players must have a Pirate Pass in order to withdraw items from the game, but can trade assets in-game at any time without a pass.

Crafting Stations

New player-owned crafting stations have been added: the Brewery, the Blacksmith, and the Tailor.

The supermajority (if not the entirety) of player-usable assets must be crafted
The Brewery crafts active perk cards and may craft consumables in the future
The Blacksmith crafts passive perk cards and cannons
The Tailor crafts wearable clothing (”cosmetics”)

All crafts in Captain & Company generally require a combination of resources, nuggies, and a blueprint (with a few exceptions). The crafting fee, which is paid in nuggies, increases relative to the current circulating supply of the crafted asset; this methodology is also referred to as a “bonding curve.” That means that as more players choose to create an asset, the more expensive it will become to create.

Crafting stations are owned as Deeds
One (1) of each type of station can be on each island
Owners with active crafting stations will receive 10% of the nuggies paid to each station as crafting fees.
Crafting stations become active when its owner has both its deed and an unoccupied plot of land linked to their account, held in any linked wallet; holding them together in the same wallet causes the plot of land to become “occupied”

Note that consumable assets, like perks, have a fluctuating circulating supply and therefore will have fluctuating bonding curve values, and thus variable crafting costs over time.

Player-Owned Land

Land economic gameplay has also been added, which will allow our biggest supporters to own a piece of the in-game economy.

Each island is composed of 10 land plots
There are currently two islands, Dragon’s Maw and Blasteron Island
There is currently no in-game visualization for the different islands, and both are represented by the same initial starting island

There will be one of each type of crafting station on each island, and there may be additional buildings that may be created in the future, some of which may be either player owned housing, crafting stations, or other economic gamepieces.

All crafting fees at a particular station type are currently split between all active owners of that station type
Crafting fees are earned in normal nuggies, which can be transformed into blessed nuggies by spending them in the marketplace
There are currently no in-game visual differentiators for land pieces, and the land metagame exists solely in user asset inventories and wallets

Note that land is still a very early feature, and much of this may still be developed over time.

Island Governance

Each island is governed by a player-owned guild, and that governership can be won or lost in periodic tournaments, which may take the form of either PvE or PvP contests.

The guild that governs an island earns 5% of all nuggies crafting fees paid on that island
Players who belong to the guild that governs an island have a special mark and rank in their inspect player profile page
As there is currently only one island visualized, contests will still begin to represent both the existing islands (Dragon’s Maw and Blasteron Island), and crafting fees will be split between the two

Island governance is also a very early feature, and is likely to be iterated on over time.

New User Interface (UI)

We’ve dramatically modernized the game UI to help new players jump into game more quickly and learn the new systems, as well as navigate the more complex marketplace and economic components that have been added.

Community Polls

As a community-first and player-owned economy, we’re going to be leaning increasingly heavily on player input for designing key features moving forward. Players will be given voting chips for various accomplishments or asset holdings over time, and those chips will allow players to vote their weight in community polls held on Snapshot after deliberation in our Discord.

We’ve taken substantial inspiration from the success of other community poll-driven games, like Old School Runescape, but also must caution that often times there will be technical or economic reasons why we may not be able to implement some community-nominated feature. Regardless, we promise to hold the polls sacred and involve the community during as many steps as possible.

Seasonal Cadence

With the release of our Early Access build, we’re eliminating the practice of numbering seasons and instead will simply name our match feature patches with codenames, largely to help welcome in new players who may otherwise feel that they’re “behind.” We’ll likely revisit the “seasonal” nomenclature after our global launch on various distribution platforms.

Balance Changes

During our Alpha seasons, the community had substantial input around the topic of balancing for solo play vs group play. As a “default multiplayer” game, this is a topic that we’ll continue to pay attention to and listen to community feedback, and will likely continue to require additional adjustment. For this update, the following changes were applied.

In Gauntlet, if a ship is missing a player when a perk is awarded, an additional perk is given to the player currently designated as the Captain of that party
The “gradient system” that causes ships with more players to deal less damage has been substantially reduced, and now causes only a minor reduction in damage per shot if you outnumber your opponent
Ship default speed has been moderately reduced, but matching wind direction by turning the sails now dramatically increases ship speed

Other quantitative changes:

Cannon:
- Adjusted damage from 6-22 to 8-12 (depending on crew size)
- Ammo capacity reduced from 40 to 20
Gatling Gun:
- Adjusted damage from 5-15 to 5-8 (depending on crew size)
Scatter Gun:
- Adjusted damage from 10-40 to 10-15 (depending on crew size)
Ship:
- Reduced turning speed by 33%
- Top speed and acceleration reduced by 40%
- Reduced collision damage by 80%
Ship Systems:
- Damaged sails now reduce top speed (in addition to acceleration) by 50%
- Catching wind in sails now increases top speed (in addition to acceleration) by up to 100%

Getting Started in C&C: Being a Pirate

Scallywags, gather round! This here be yer one-stop shop to getting up to speed in Captain & Company and sending those other landlubbers to Davy Jones’ locker on yer way to harvesting glorious gold!

This guide has comprehensive steps to understanding each key reward and farming mechanic in Captain & Company as of today. It’s written with individual player types in mind, so choose the adventure below that best suits yer fancy!

Choose Yer Path

Below are the various guide choices for every player type. Choose the farming path that resonates with you!

1. Blast Basics

Blast is a new Layer 2 on Ethereum that soared to one of the highest total value locked (TVL) marks in all of web3 within just months of launching. Blast has an ongoing airdrop program where they distribute their $BLAST tokens to ecosystem participants. $BLAST is distributed according to the number of Blast Points and Blast Gold you have. Blast Gold is worth thousands of times more than Blast Points, and is the reward you’ll be earning by playing Captain & Company.

To earn Blast Gold that will convert to $BLAST inside of Captain & Company, you can complete in-game quests, win PvP tournaments, or participate in special one-time events.

Actions to Take

To be able to receive Blast Gold and convert it into $BLAST tokens for playing Captain & Company, you’ll need to sign up using a referral code, here.
You should also sign up for an account on kap.gg and sync your wallet on kap.gg/profile and set it to primary to receive Blast Gold and other rewards.

2. Captain & Company Game Modes

There are two principal gameplay types in Captain & Company: (1) co-op realtime naval battles and (2) idle pirate management missions. You can earn rewards by playing either.

The co-op naval battles are either PvP or PvE and are played directly in the game client, which you can find here. You’ll complete quests that are visible both in-game in your ESC menu options, or on your kap.gg/profile page under Quests. Those quests grant mBLAST, which then converts into Blast Gold every few weeks.

The idle pirate management game is played on kap.gg/profile and requires you to own NFT ships or Skellies and to send them out on adventures to automatically harvest mBLAST. These idle missions all have variable exciting dangers and your ships come equipped with various perks to deal with them, all of which can be rerolled using the in-game premium currency, nuggies.

Actions to Take

To participate in the co-op naval battles, you can either:

Play for free here and jump into the fray, piloting a ship or supporting a crew

To participate in the idle pirate management missions:

Purchase a ship or a Skellie on OpenSea and send out missions from kap.gg/profile

3. Play to Earn, No NFTs Required

You can get started earning in Captain & Company without any purchases, just hop right in on our downloads page and complete quests to earn mBLAST!

To maximize your play to earn (P2E) earnings, you’ll also want to join an in-game guild. Guilds are completely free and come with no strings attached, but being in a guild automatically qualifies you to enter both PvE and PvP tournaments, both of which come with even more rewards — plus you’ll have guildmates to call on when you need extra crew.

When you’ve got your sea legs and you’re ready to earn more, you can pick up a Pirate’s Pass, which will enable you to hold an uncapped amount of mBLAST and cash out other NFTs and web3 rewards down the line. Pirate’s Passes can be purchased in-game for 200,000 nuggies, or are frequently handed out for free by guilds who are recruiting in the Discord or in giveaways on the Captain & Company Twitter. The fastest way to get one for free is to hang around in the Discord and ask!

Actions to Take

Get started for free at capnco.gg/download. You’ll start earning mBLAST and web3 rewards immediately!

Join a guild as soon as you hop in! If you have friends in an existing guild, ask them to send you their guild code and you can input it here. Don’t worry, you can switch guilds at any time.

Complete quests in your quest log (ESC menu in-game) or on kap.gg/profile to earn mBLAST and land crystals. Make sure you sync a primary wallet in the Wallets tab on kap.gg/profile to be eligible to receive your Blast Gold airdrops.

mBLAST converts to Blast Gold every few weeks, and Blast Gold converts to $BLAST tokens at the end of the Phase 2 airdrop. Land crystals will convert to land NFTs inside of Captain & Company.
If you are not an NFT shipholder or do not have a Pirate’s Pass, the maximum mBLAST you can hold at any time is 500,000. To access uncapped web3 earnings, you need to purchase a Pirate’s Pass, which can be done with 200,000 nuggies on kap.gg/profile in the Currencies tab.

If you have a code from a giveaway or your Guild, use the Redeem tab.

And you’re all set for a great piratey adventure, out on P2E seas! Yarr!

4. Harvest Gold Without Playing

If you’re more interested in holding NFTs and allowing other players to use those NFTs to generate you yield, then owning a guild and becoming an Admiral might be for you!

The in-game guild system in Captain & Company allows other players to use your NFTs, and, as they complete objectives, they’ll generate bonus rewards that go straight to your guild. The yield from those bonuses is then distributed amongst all shipholders in a guild, pro rata with their shares of total ships.

If you don’t want to create a guild, choose “Join a Guild” on the menu shown below, and you’ll automatically receive your yield from the guild you’ve joined proportional to the number of ships you’re holding, as long as those players in the guild are playing.

Actions to Take

To begin, you’ll need to purchase ships on OpenSea or Blur and create an account on kap.gg/profile and Blast.

Then head to kap.gg/profile and click Wallets to sync the wallet with your ships. While you’re here, click “Make Primary” to designate the wallet you want to receive Blast Gold and other rewards in.

Then head to kap.gg/profile and click Guild to begin guild creation.

You’ll create a guild flag which will be visible in-game, and decide whether or not you want Auto-Join enabled, which will allow any users to join your guild automatically, else, you have to approve each joiner.

Once your guild is created, advertise in our Discord and other popular P2E community locations to invite players to join you. Players find your guild under the Guild tab of kap.gg/profile. You then press Accept under the Requests tab on players that you like.

As players play the bonus yield from their in-game rewards will be sent to your Guild Treasury. Your Guild Treasury is then split out to you and all other shipholders in your guild on a pro rata basis daily at 4 PM UTC reset.

Invite as many players as you can and watch the yield climb as they utilize your assets! You’ll simultaneously farm Captain & Company rewards and in-game loot, Blast Gold, and other potential partner rewards in the future.

5. Player-Owned Ports: Idle Missions

NFT holders also have the ability to generate yield idly by sending their ships or Skellies on missions. Ships can still be played by players in-game while on missions.

Each mission has three Dangers associated with it. You can counter these dangers by rerolling Perks, each of which counters a number of associated Dangers. As Dangers are countered, your probability of success on the mission increases. Rerolling perks costs Nuggies.

To begin, you’ll need to purchase ships on OpenSea or Blur and create an account on kap.gg/profile and Blast.

Then head to kap.gg/profile and click Wallets to sync the wallet with your ships. While you’re here, click “Make Primary” to designate the wallet you want to receive Blast Gold and other rewards in.

Next, navigate to the Port tab. Your ships should be displayed. Note that ships only are eligible for missions if they’ve been in your synced wallet and unlisted for 24 hours.

On the right side, you’ll see the Dangers associated with the mission. Grayed out dangers are those that are mitigated by your current Perks. You can reroll all of your Perks for a chance at improving your danger mitigation and success.

When missions finished, they’ll be displayed both in your Points History tab on kap.gg/profile as well as in a new mission completion ledger we’ll be adding. You can earn mBLAST which converts to Blast Gold, as well as native ecosystem rewards.

6. Tournaments for Gold

If competition and dominating other players is your thing, join a guild and help them climb to the top of the leaderboards for your cut of huge gold piles!

Captain & Company features both PvE and PvP style tournaments. In PvP style tournaments, the objective will be to raise your MMR as high as possible. In PvE style tournaments, the objective might be to earn as many kills or points as possible.

At 4 PM UTC each day (except the day after a tournament finishes), your PvE or PvP progress is used to reward you and your guild with Skulls. Those Skulls are then tracked on Shards.tech and the winning guilds receive big chunks of Blast Gold.

Actions to Take

Head to the Merchant in-game at the docks and send in an application to a Guild (or a few) that you like. The Guild owner may need to approve your application, so join our Discord and ask around for PvP guilds if you want to expedite the process.

Complete in-game objectives and climb as high as you can on the leaderboards. You can see your status versus other players on the Leaderboards tab in kap.gg/profile.

Each day at 4 PM UTC (except for the day after a tournament ends), you’ll receive Skulls in relation to your progress. Those Skulls are attributed to your guild, and you get credit for generating them.

When the tournament ends, the top guilds each split a massive prize pool of gold. 20% of the gold earned goes to the shipholders, and 10% goes to the Fraction holders. The amount left over is split out to all Skulls-producing guild members pro rata with their amount of Skulls.

If you’d like to speculate on the outcome of a tournament, the Shards platform automatically distributes 10% of winning guilds’ prize pools to “Fraction holders.” You can purchase Fractions of guilds as they compete on Shards.tech.

Your Blast Gold from winning tournaments will then be credited directly to your Primary Wallet set in the Wallets section of your kap.gg/profile.

There are tons of ways to get involved in Captain & Company and there’s a way for everyone to earn! Guilds are a hugely exciting way to team with your friends and meet new pirate souls to go on epic pillages with. 2.4: Guilds Redux, Player-Owned Ports v1, Skills & Profiles

Pirates, scallywags, lend us yer ears! Captain & Company is midway through its development into a fully on-chain MMORPG where both free-to-play pirates and daring ship-owning captains come together to venture out on daring pillages, collect resources to cooperatively build island nations, and duke it out in brawls to prove who the real Pirate Lord is.

We’ve got some big new drops for all o’ ye landlubbers today — dig in!

[Note: This article will be updated with comprehensive infographics to better explain these systems later.]

Guild System v2

We’ve redesigned the Guild system to address three big issues:

Large assetholders were paying other players to manage individual accounts
F2P players on the receiving end often voiced complaints about “bad managers”
Blast L2 recently disallowed multipliers for native assets (NFTs and tokens)

While we’ve taken no formal stance on “scholar arrangements” to date, the current user flow isn’t congruent with our long-term vision for the game. Ultimately, we’ve chosen to push the game in a direction that enables free to play (“F2P”) players who aren’t familiar with web3 to quickly jump in and enjoy the full scope of gameplay, while still preserving the economic upside for web3 holders by enabling them to engage in a more “idle” capacity.

Specifically, our objective with Guilds is to organize them more similarly to both “Corporations” in EVE Online and “Flags” in Puzzle Pirates. This means that assets in Guilds will be more cooperatively used, and the rewards from their use will be split out to the asset owners pro rata with respect to their ownership. This is to intentionally cater simultaneously to the action RPG players (in-game activities) and the economic metagamers (NFT and token ownership).

To that end, the adjustments to Guilds we’ve made include:

Guilds now have no maximum limit on members
Players no longer need a web3 signature to finalize membership when joining
“Major Guild Changes” are possible for 24hr after Tuesday resets at 4 PM UTC:
- Adjusting the Guild Treasury / Member split ratio
- Force kicking a player from the Guild
- Leaving a Guild
“Minor Guild Changes” are possible at any time:
- Adding players to the Guild
Ships owned by any members in the Guild are now playable by fellow members
Ships rented by any members in the Guild are now playable by fellow members
While a ship is in use by one player in-game, it cannot be used by another player
The notion of a “Guild Treasury Pool” was introduced
Quests completed while using Guild assets send a cut back to the Guild Treasury

These are complex mechanics, so we’ll continue to dive into more details below and finish up with a FAQ at the end.

Guild Treasury Pool

The Guild Treasury Pool has two major functions:

The pool takes in quest rewards and in-game loot from Guild members who use Guild assets, based on the Guild Treasury split % ratio set by the Guild Owner
The pool redistributes quest rewards and in-game loot to Guild members who have playable assets in the Guild via the idle Player-Owned Ports minigame

Specifically, this means that:

Guild owners who have many ship assets will invite players to their Guild who likely have no ship assets
Those players will be able to play those ships on behalf of the Guild
The players playing the ships will be able to loot in-game objectives and claim quests just as if they actually were ship owners themselves, but the Guild Treasury % rake will be automatically deducted and sent back to the Guild Treasury
The total sum of all rewards received by the Guild Treasury will then be assigned to the ships active in the Guild during that day
Those rewards will then be available to be claimed as bonuses by the owners of those ships in the Player Owned Ports minigame on the next day

In effect, this means that “scholarships” are no longer explicitly necessary, as large asset holders can simply house all of their assets in a Guild, and then allow any number of players to join and operate those assets en masse, splitting out the rewards as they go.

To be counted as eligible for the Guild Treasury pool, assets (ships) must have been in the Guild for 24hr. Rented ships are subject to the same rules as purchased ships, which mean that they also must be in a guild for 24hr before being eligible for the Guild Treasury pool, and can also be played by all players in the Guild.

Note: Company quests and Company in-game loot splits are not affected by the Guild Treasury split, as those are free-to-play actions that do not specifically utilize Guild assets, and instead are supportive to the Guild’s objectives.

Player-Owned Ports v1

In a similar vein to the somewhat controversially popular idle minigame in Runescape, Player-Owned Ports are designed to allow asset holders some quantity of semi-idle engagement in an explicitly economic metagame that does not require the same level of coordination or time as the in-game naval battles in Captain & Company.

Player-Owned Ports have three key objectives:

Allow asset holders to semi-idly utilize their assets by sending them on missions
Redistribute Guild Treasury yield in a way that requires engagement
Set the stage for the larger economic metagame around land later

To participate in Player-Owned Ports, you must:

Be part of a Guild
Own or have rented qualifying assets held for greater than 24hr

The rewards for Player-Owned Ports may include:

mBLAST
Land Crystals
Doubloons
Nuggies
Loot Crates

When a ship returns from a mission, you’re granted two different sets of rewards simultaneously:

The default mission reward, with a chance for success
Your guaranteed pro rata share of your Guild Treasury earnings over the past 24hr

To play, players navigate to kap.gg/profile and click the “Port” tab on the left. You’ll be greeted by a list of all ships that you have had control of for greater than 24hr. From here, as long as you send out the ship and pay for supplies using nuggies, you’ll automatically receive the bounty it pillages on its way back home 24hr later.

Note that this is a very early implementation of Player-Owned Ports, and does not constitute nor well represent the entire future vision of player ownership around islands, shipyards, crafting locations, resource nodes, and more. We’ll be releasing a revamped whitepaper with specific details related to those gameplay elements in the months leading up to S3.

Captain’s Passes

Via the new Guilds system, all players who have a Captain’s Pass are permitted to be a Captain on any ship owned by any member of the Guild. As a Captain, you will be entitled to keep the share of rewards and loot you earn in-game directly, minus the share that is sent to your Guild Treasury. Your Guild Treasury is controlled by your Guild Owner, and each week after Tuesday at 4 PM UTC they have the ability to change the Guild Treasury rate. See the “Guild System v2” section above.

A Captain’s Pass costs 200,000 nuggies, which can be purchased using the $KAP token directly inside of kap.gg/profile under the Currencies tab. Each Captain’s Pass lasts for 30 days, and, if you switch between Guilds, you still keep your Captain’s Pass. You do not need a Captain’s Pass if you already have a ship or have rented one.

To summarize:

You do not need a Captain’s Pass if you own/rent an NFT ship
You do need a Captain’s Pass if you do not own/rent an NFT ship and want to pilot
Captain’s Passes cost 200,000 nuggies, which can be paid in $KAP

Skills & Player Profiles

Players are each now inspectable and host their own profile pages in-game! View yer fellow scallywags’ equipment, rank, Guild status, skills, MMR and more that we’ll be adding over time as we complete the MMO elements of Captain & Company.

Player profiles are particularly important in the context of Guilds and recruitment, where Guild Owners will be able to easily verify the quality of a candidate in-game as well as their capability to pilot a ship (if they have a Captain’s Pass).

Additionally, the Skills section on the right will track your over-time experience gain in various categories related to naval battling, with more Skills to come in the future! The Reputation system on the left is still in progress, and will provide a more qualitative overview of your life as a pirate in the Goldcoves.

Blast Phase 2 and Multipliers

For July, Captain & Company was granted 532,213 Blast Gold, 100% of which we have committed back to our players. Blast recently disallowed multipliers for native assets (e.g. NFTs and tokens), which also impact our use of multipliers for NFT holders and tokenholders. As a consequence of this, all multipliers have been removed, and we’re rearranging a number of elements to ensure continuous utility of all impacted assets.

Additionally, note that we will need to continue to adjust ecosystem parameters due to potential new rulesets as well as driving towards mass web2 adoption. We will forecast changes in advance to the best of our ability.

We’ve made the following changes to adjust the economy away from multipliers:

Ships remain core playable assets required to complete Captain quests, and now qualify for earning rewards by completing missions via Player Owned Ports
Wraith Brigs have default higher rewards on Player Owned Ports missions, but do not command a higher Guild Treasury split, as they are still only playable by one player at once
Skellies will be equippable on ship missions and grant a chance at winning additional rewards (this feature coming within the next two weeks)

For July, we’ll be distributing 50k Gold to PvP Guild tournaments weekly, and 127k Gold to mBLAST earners weekly, always at weekly reset (Tuesdays 4 PM UTC).

While these new changes for Blast Phase 2 are a substantial departure from the prior multiplier system, we’re going to be continuing to drive game utility towards those assets using the tools under our control, starting with some changes to staking detailed below.

Staking Changes

As a result of the new Blast Phase 2 changes, staking will be evolving alongside the core kap.gg platform as part of our larger growth into an on-chain publishing group. To that end, the following changes will be going in over the next week:

Nuggies will be passively earned by staking certain assets
Nuggies will become a larger part of the in-game economy
KAP LP stakers will qualify for future potential partner rewards

At the start, USDB, WETH, KAP-WETH, and KAP-BLAST will be eligible for staking to earn nuggies, which are then used to send your ships on missions, craft, and rent within the game. Nuggies are principally purchased with $KAP, and certain discounts will be available for users who use $KAP at a later date.

Staking KAP-WETH or KAP-BLAST will be done via a new UI on kap.gg that will be up later this week, and those positions will accrue fees, Hyperlock Points, Thruster Points, and any Blast Points or Blast Gold assigned by Hyperlock or Thruster, in addition to yielding native nuggie rewards.

Staking USDB or ETH will also be done via that same new UI on kap.gg shortly, and those positions will forfeit their yield in exchange for accruing Blast Points and native nuggies.

The rates for each will be pegged to the floating native yield on USDB and WETH, with large bonuses for KAP-WETH and KAP-BLAST LPs. As of today, ETH currently yields 4.75% and USDB currently yields 11.43% on Blast. Thus, the rates as of this week will be:

$1 ETH = 1.43 nuggies/day
$1 USDB = 3.44 nuggies/day (+140% bonus)
$1 KAP-WETH = 15.73 nuggies/day (+1,000% bonus)
$1 KAP-BLAST = 15.73 nuggies/day (+1,000% bonus)

In addition to the above changes, we’ll also be releasing a revamped whitepaper and vision for the KAP Games token and ecosystem, as well as sharing more news about our upcoming [REDACTED] event.

Note that as these native yield rates fluctuate over time, they will be adjusted commensurately. After the release of [REDACTED], certain bonuses may be reintroduced, changed, or otherwise swapped.

Crafting is Almost Here!

Crafting will be back this week! You’ll be once again able to redeem lootboxes, pop those goldprints, and craft ships (assuming you have a bucketful of nuggies for the bonding curve price). There have been a few upgrades and changes made while crafting has been down:

Crafting is now done entirely on the Blast chain
Crafting is now done inside the kap.gg UI
Crafting bonding curves are now denominated in nuggies (can be paid in $KAP)
Crafting recipes now show the required ingredients to complete a blueprint

We’re going to be expanding the crafting system dramatically, as well as moving it more fully on-chain over the coming few months. Strap in, pirates!

Big Focus on Mobile

To set the stage for our upcoming regional appstore launches across Google Play, the iOS App Store, and Epic, we’ve implemented a number of substantial changes to core systems to make the game more approachable for new players and more sustainable for collectors and owners alike.

We’re going to be working with Blast to start distributing Captain & Company via their upcoming Blast mobile app. Additionally, we’re exploring deliver Captain & Company through both Telegram and Discord to further improve the cross-play nature of the title. We have a ton of belief that short, quick session-based content will be the stickiest in web2.5 over the next year, and we’ll be building to capture that momentum.

Other Minor Announcements

We’ll soon be launching a formal C&C Wiki and deprecating the existing Gitbook, as the game has evolved too quickly for us to maintain accurate information on those pages. We’ll be adding a substantial quantity of content in coming months, and we’ll be empowering the community to share and maintain that data on a publicly editable wiki. If you’d like to be one of our early curators, please reach out!
We’ll be allowing players to join and leave Guilds directly in-game soon.
We’ll be making a major transition to moving the entirety of the game economy into a fully on-chain state. Please bear with us as this transition will take a considerable amount of resources, but will result in C&C becoming one of the very few fully on-chain mobile games.

Concluding Thoughts

Blast rewards via the mBLAST system will begin again this Thursday, after players have had 48 hours from today to adjust to the new changes and set up their Guilds. More Shards PvP tournaments will be live soon, likely at the same time.

The largescale changes to the economy place the game into a position where a real fully on-chain economy is possible, and the nuggies costs that will be added to missions are the first steps towards integrating a full-cycle ecosystem economy. As we approach the launch of [REDACTED] we’ll continue to move more assets fully on-chain to increase transparency, composability, and experimental utility.

FAQ

Is there an optimum number of users I should have in my Guild?

No, in general, assuming that all players are of equal skill and are genuinely participating, there’s no reason to not invite hundreds of players to your Guild.
However, there are two mechanics to keep in mind:
- (1) when a player is using a ship, the ship cannot be used by other players, which means there is an “opportunity cost” to having a poor player hog up all the ship time; and
- (2) when a member with playable assets (ships) joins, they’ll contribute those assets automatically to your guild asset pool, which means the assets will be playable by other players and the contributing asset player will receive a cut of your Guild Treasury pro rata with their asset contribution time and ownership.
Net, you should feel comfortable inviting anyone to your Guild, and the rewards will self-organize, but, if you notice a player is “hogging up ships” but producing relatively little output, you should remove them.

How do I play to earn without an NFT?
You have two options:

Join any ship available as Company using the shack on the right side of the docks
Purchase or earn a Captain’s Pass and join a Guild to pilot one of their ships!

How do I farm $BLAST using my NFTs?
To get started farming $BLAST, purchase a ship on OpenSea or Blur, then create a Guild on kap.gg/profile after logging in. From there, other players will “Request to Join” your Guild, and you can advertise it in our Discord for expediency. Players will then automatically play your assets in-game and generate mBLAST, nuggies, doubloons, land crystals, and other lootable items, a portion of which (the “Guild Treasury Rate”) will be split back to your Guild Treasury automatically.

From there, log in once a day to complete your daily missions in the Port tab of kap.gg/profile to claim your yield. Missions have both a “guaranteed” portion, which is related to the yield generated by the players in your Guild, and a “probability-based” portion, which is not dependent on any factors and can be farmed completely idly.

Where do I get a Captain’s Pass?
You can buy a Captain’s Pass using 200,000 nuggies ) in-game on the Captain’s side of the docks. To get nuggies, either earn them in-game or purchase them in the Currencies tab on kap.gg/profile, where you can use $KAP to buy them.

How much Blast Gold are you distributing, and where?
531k total Blast Gold will be distributed over the course of July. On a weekly basis, 50k Blast Gold will go to PvP tournaments, and 127k Blast Gold will go to mBLAST holders. Gold is distributed shortly after weekly reset at 4 PM UTC on Tuesdays.

When is Season 3 of Captain & Company?
Captain & Company seasons each last 120 days. Season 3 is expected to launch sometime in October or November. Season 3 will also likely be the time that Captain & Company migrates to a “mainstream market,” and begins regional launch rollouts.

Season 2: Black Blade Renegades

Ahoy, swashbucklers! After spending a few moons below deck our cabin crew is finally ready to unveil a number of game system upgrades and mechanics that we’re sure will melt yer fiery pirate hearts. Get ready for more PvP, more casual gameplay, more cosmetics, and even more rewards with Season 2: Black Blade Renegades!

Read on for the juicy tidbits, but stay tuned because very shortly after these gameplay-focused Season 2 updates we’re going to have some big additional announcements coming!

Gameplay: Deathmatch, Adventure, Systems Damage, New Weapons

We’re putting the focus back on two key areas of the game: super casual PvE blasting and hardcore PvP competition. These take the form of Deathmatch, a new 1v1 mode, and Adventure, a new hybrid PvE/PvP mode.

In addition, we’ve introduced Systems Damage, wherein the more savvy pirates among ye can specifically target cannons or sails on opponents’ ships to disable them, as well as adding new weapon types like a Gatling gun and a shotgun-styled power cannon. And, finally, cosmetic hats now work! Yarr!

Deathmatch

In Deathmatch, you and your opponent will both spawn into a familiar open arena and engage in a duel to the death, with only the best pirate crew left standing. You’ll need to strategically position your opening shots and aim to disable your opponent quickly to kite them out of range for a brilliant broadside salvo, but your strategy may change dramatically depending on how you configure your weapons layout and where your crew’s core strengths lie.

MMR systems will all be shifting to Deathmatch mode, and it’ll be more difficult to gain MMR than it was before, as well as more punishing to lose it. We’ll be introducing a number of high-level tournaments and rewards (read below) to make it worth your while to climb that prestigious ladder!

Adventure

In Adventure, you & your crew set out into the open sea once more where you’ll be immediately greeted by packs of seriously tyrannical renegades, but this time in a non-PvP zone. These NPCs offer varying degrees of danger and reward that will be tuned over the course of Season 2, and should serve as a much more casual entry point & farming mechanism for those who aren’t quite so PvP-minded.

Additionally, right in the center of the Adventure mode map is a red ring — cross that ring and you’ll be right back in the PvP zone, ready to cause the same chaos you’ve been accustomed to so far. We’ll be experimenting with dropping high-quality boxes of loot in the middle of that wilderness zone throughout the season to incentivize players to take the leap.

Note that this is “not the final form” of C&C, and over the course of Season 2 we’re going to be significantly overhauling the PvE experience to be a very unique single-party focused adventure, as well as improving the mechanical complexity of PvP to reward high-skill players. That means longer “gauntlet”-style adventures, bosses, and more are on the table!

Systems Damage

Systems damage currently applies to both cannons and sails, and more systems will be added to ships at later dates that will also be vulnerable to targeted assault. With this new mechanic, very high Company player aiming skill (and luck) are rewarded, and Captains can now create new risky maneuvers to allow perfect snipes for their Company members while protecting their own precious systems.

We’ll also be exploring a larger revamp to the shield repair system, as we’re aware that it’s frequently targeted by bad actors. Expect another set of minor mechanical updates to shield repairs later in the season.

New Weapons

Finally, we’ve introduced two new weapons — the Gatling gun and the scatter cannon. Both of these will be available to all players immediately, and each will be iteratively tuned over the course of the season. We plan to add a plethora of additional weapons (and powerups) to make an extremely diverse & exciting meta for you hardcore PvPers!

Inventory, Skellies, & Cosmetics

We know the in-game UI has been sparse, and, while some of that is intentional, leaving you without an inventory or a hat has not been — so we’re excited to finally be moving you players one step closer to a true pirate MMO with a complete inventory & equipment UI, as well as the ability to actually use those items & cosmetics you’re collecting!

Inventory

Inside of your inventory you’ll find your various currency balances, including mBLAST, doubloons, and nuggies, as well as any of your synced blockchain assets, Land Crystals, and Skellies. Over time, we’ll be introducing more loot collection mechanics and equipment pieces (for both ships and players) that will play more heavily into this screen.

Crafting will also be migrated in-game, as well as into a brand new UI on the kap.gg site, alongside a marketplace, a bit later during Season 2.

Cosmetics & Skellies

Cosmetic hats and Skellies are now equippable in-game! Wreak havoc in style as your foes gaze up in terror at your monstrous Horned Helm or illustrious Straw Hat. Skellies serve as your in-game profile pictures and will propagate across the new kap.gg site when it launches in a few weeks.

Note that cosmetics will also be subject to the bonding curve. We’ll be updating the whitepaper more completely shortly after Season 2 launches to more properly catalog the large number of updates that have gone in with respect to cosmetics and crafting over the past few months.

Quests & Dailies

We’ve migrated the quests inside of the game UI into a new system that also includes daily check-in quests. Quests will award varying quantities of mBLAST, Land Crystals, and more surprises along the way. There are three types of quests:

Dailies
Rotating Dailies
Weeklies

Dailies are persistent quests that reset each day, rotating dailies alternate on a set schedule (right now between a PvE-focused questing day and a PvP-focused questing day), and weeklies reset at weekly reset. These quests will get increasingly experimental as the season moves along, so expect quite a lot of adjustments to these over time as we find where the new balance is for certain player farming rates.

We’ve also introduced a new daily check-in reward, which you can claim after completing any other quest on the board. These rewards become incrementally larger for each day that you check in consecutively, up to 30 days max, at which point the calendar resets and you again start a new 30-day check-in series.

All quest rewards, including the daily check-ins, are multiplied by your multiplier, which is explained again below, but unchanged from the current implementation you’re familiar with.

Rewards: Seasonal Land, Tournaments, Blast Gold, & [REDACTED]

We’ve got a ton of rewards for all of you pirates to claim this season! We’ve revamped the seasonal rewards model to better incorporate existing quests and multipliers, we’ll still be issuing mBLAST for Blast Gold, plus adding a bunch of tournaments with big prize pools, and we’re going to be doing a big [REDACTED] soon. mBLAST & Blast Gold

Blast season continues! We’ve still got loads of Blast Gold to give out through the end of June, and we’ve got faith that Blast has big things in store for all of us after the big airdrop at the of the month. Players will continue to earn mBLAST by completing quests in-game and collecting multipliers by owning game NFTs and staking.

We’re going to be keeping the exact same multiplier system as we’ve had to-date, and we’ll be seamlessly blending that in with the other rewards systems listed below. As a reminder, multipliers can be gained by:

(Up to +5x) Holding Ships or Skellies (Blur, OpenSea)
- Clockwork Brigs always grant +1x
- Wraith Brigs always grant +5x
(Up to +5x) Staking ETH, USDB, or KAP-WETH (Staking Portal)
- Each tier is represented by points equivalent to 20 Clockwork Brigs of value (starting at 40 for +2x)
- USDB and ETH are worth 100 points per $1 of value staked
- KAP-WETH is worth 1300 points per $1 of value staked
  - KAP-WETH can be staked as a Blasterswap v2 LP or a Thruster v2 LP via Hyperlock
Max combined multiplier of +10x

In addition, via a collaboration with Thruster and Hyperlock, we’ll be bringing one-click staking contracts to the updated $KAP staking portal. We’re going to be looking to do some truly innovative things with these, like potentially allowing users to stake into the $KAP-WETH pool directly from the game just using nuggies. Web2, ho!

Land Crystals

Land in the Captain & Company universe is in short supply, and the only way to get it is by collecting Land Crystals via our seasonal rewards program. You’ll later use those Land Crystals to fuse into Land Deeds, which will grant you real ownership of the extremely limited number of playable land assets in the game.

To get your hands on Land Crystals, keep the following in mind:

50% of Land Crystals come directly from in-game quests
50% of Land Crystals come from converting Doubloons at the end of the season

Players earn Doubloons for doing pretty much anything inside of Captain & Company, including destroying fellow pirates, completing quests & minigames, and winning tournament rewards. All of those collected Doubloons then convert to Land Crystals at the end of the season. Note that existing Doubloons have been reset, as preseason activities are not part of the Season 2 rewards category.

Because your multipliers apply to all quest and daily check-in rewards, it’s well worth the time it takes to rack up assets and ensure that you stay ahead of the curve in the great land rush. And, very importantly, we’ll be adding even more in-game features for you to use Doubloons on and get even bigger leverage on land!

Finally, keep in mind that the long-term vision for Captain & Company is to push all economic activity via land assets and player-run workshops. That means that at some point in the future we aim to allow players to participate in the crafting and repair loops for assets like ships, cosmetics, consumables and more. We’ll be sharing more of the functionality behind land as we get closer to allowing all you pirates to step ashore!

How do I make a KAP account?
Simply log in via your email on kap.gg/profile! You can manage your quest progress, guild settings, username, rentals, inventory, and more in kap.gg/profile.

How do I make a guild for the tournaments?
You can create a guild or join a guild on kap.gg/profile. Guilds and tournaments are managed by our partner Shards, and you can learn more about guild fractionalization and reward sharing on their site. The initial tournament launch prize pool for Season 2’s first tournament is over $200k in expected value.

How do guilds work on Shards?
In short, Shards allows guilds to fractionalize their ownership and rewards. Specifically, a Guild Owner can set a price per “fraction” of a guild, which grant the holder some percentage of that guild’s winnings. When the guild wins a tournament on Shards, some amount of the tournament winnings are split to the owner, to fraction holders, and to the guild’s players.

How do the tournaments work? What are Skulls?
Skulls are points issued to guilds participating in tournaments. You earn Skulls by scoring high on the MMR leaderboards each week by the time of weekly reset. There are two different tournaments, one for Captains, and one for Company. You can participate in both tournaments on the same account and guild, but you may choose to optimize your guilds by creating one specifically for Captains and one specifically for Company to focus your effort. When can we craft land?
Land crafting will be announced closer to Season 3, and Season 1 and Season 2 Land Crystals will be distributed at the same time. If you earned Doubloons during Season 1, your Land Crystal allocation is already safely locked in.

How does the new MMR system work?
The new MMR system is more similar to a traditional MOBA-type ELO system, with one caveat that while our playerbase gets up to speed there are adjustments for what happens when a highly ranked player faces off against a low-ranked player. Specifically, if two like-ranked players face off, the gain/loss of MMR is symmetric, but if a highly-ranked player defeats a lowly-ranked player, the gain of MMR is reduced, and the lowly-ranked players’ loss is also reduced. The inverse also applies, wherein if a lowly-ranked player defeats a highly-ranked player, the lowly-ranked player stands to gain a substantial quantity of MMR and the highly-ranked player loses a substantial quantity of MMR.

What do we do with our weapon skins?
Weapon equipments and skins will be usable likely in Season 3, but player cosmetic skins were prioritized for Season 2. We’ll be making additional announcements about the utility of weapon equipments and skins as we get closer to that date.

When is the weekly reset?
The weekly reset remains 4 PM UTC on Tuesdays. MMR Leaderboard snapshots, reward distributions, major updates, and weekly quest resets will all be timed around that mark.

What’s the point of $KAP if we have [REDACTED]?
$KAP is the publisher token of the KAP Games ecosystem. There are substantial utility plans that haven’t yet been released here, and a new site and whitepaper will be launched within the next few weeks to clarify the important utility of the $KAP token when paired with [REDACTED].

When is Season 3?
Captain & Company seasons each last 120 days. Season 3 is expected to launch sometime in early October. Season 3 will also likely be the time that Captain & Company migrates to a “mainstream market,” with traditional distribution partners in place.

Preseason Update: mBLAST, Quests, Rentals & More!

Avast, ye scurvy scallywags! We’ve got some seriously exciting news on the horizon with the upcoming launch of Season 2, and, before we set sail, we wanted to get a few really important system changes in place.

Note that all of these systems are brand new, experimental, and subject to change — please continually submit feedback and bugs you find!

Read on for details around the next Blast Gold distribution via the mBLAST points system, rental updates, new additions of in-game quests, a new dashboard & more!

Quests

Quest objectives have been introduced! You can find them on your new kap.gg/profile page. Read the QoL Changes section below to learn more about the new profile page, which comes with a load of other nifty gadgets.

Quests are divided into both Captain and Company categories, and currently grant mBLAST upon completion. Later, when Season 2 launches, quests will also be the source of additional seasonal points & currency rewards. While this first set of quests is relatively small and straightforward, we’ll be dramatically expanding the quest system throughout Season 2 into more colorful and adventurous varieties of objectives.

Note that there are both quests specifically for Captains and specifically for Company. To be eligible for a Captain quest, you must have either been holding a ship NFT for 24 hours or have redeemed a Captain Access Code.

Quests are also eligible for multipliers based on your staked assets and your unlisted NFT owned assets. With this set of changes, we’ve merged concepts from the pre-existing “Pirate Pass” and “Pirate Tier” systems into one consolidated framework for seasonal rewards. Our objective is to merge this system in seamlessly with our upcoming Season 2 points system so that players do not need to rearrange again. Read the below mBLAST section for specifics!

New mBLAST System

Riding the huge wave of momentum in the Blast ecosystem, we’ve been carefully tuning our mBLAST points program to more carefully meet the guidelines of the Blast team while still blending seamlessly with the rewards model we’ll be implementing in Season 2.

To begin, note that from a user perspective the set of actions you’ll need to complete to earn mBLAST is still roughly the same. It’s still all about playing the game, owning some NFTs, and participating in the staking pools. Changes here!

mBLAST System Changes

Instead of earning mBLAST for dealing damage directly, you now earn mBLAST for completing daily quest objectives; these quest objectives largely require you to collect Doubloons, which you now earn for dealing damage directly
Instead of ships, PFPs, and other NFTs passively emitting mBLAST rewards, they’ll now grant you a multiplier (up to +5.0x) that will apply to certain mBLAST quest rewards
Instead of staking KAP-WETH, USDB, ETH, or KAP to earn passive mBLAST rewards, your staked value will now grant you a multiplier (up to +5.0x) that will apply to certain mBLAST quest rewards
These multipliers are additive with respect to each other, making the maximum multiplier +10.0x
The multiplier tiers are based on a “value weighted” system, where each tier is pegged to some $ amount of value, and so long as you have that amount of $ value in the respective bin (i.e. staking or NFT holding), you qualify for the multiplier for that bin
The $ value associated with each multiplier tier is dynamically set in relation to the actual price of ships, as determined by the moving average of the assets in open markets
The asset holding multiplier tiers are pegged to the value of 1x ship per tier; that is, to achieve the 2x tier, you’ll need to be holding 2 ships worth of value, and to reach the 4x tier you’ll generally need to be holding 4 ships of value
Holding a Wraith Brig will automatically qualify you for the maximum asset holding multiplier (+5.0x) (note that this may not go live until later in the week after the patch)
Note that because the moving average used to both calculate tier requirements and asset values is a historical average, you may occasionally fall off or into multiplier tiers if prices of various assets are volatile
Assets and staked positions only count for the multiplier after 24hr, to prevent users from rapidly moving assets between accounts to farm easy multiplier quests
Staking multiplier tiers are set in relation to the value required for each asset matching asset holding multiplier tier
In terms of KAP-WETH, a user will need twice the $ amount of value staked in the staking bin as they would require in NFTs held in the asset holding bin to achieve the same multiplier tier level
KAP-WETH receives a 10x bonus to its value when counted for “points” in the staking pool versus USDB or ETH; meaning that if you were to stake USDB or ETH to reach the staking multiplier required, you would need to stake 10x as much versus just staking KAP-WETH

Note that the mBLAST system will be tuned on a weekly basis, and potentially on a daily basis if we detect player earnings are not commensurate with our forecasts or other exploits are discovered. Additionally, note that Doubloons will reset to 0 when Season 2 formally launches, and they are simply an “in-game points” system until then.

After the first week, we’ll be making these two experimental changes:

All quests will qualify for multipliers and their mBLAST values will be tweaked
The KAP/WETH value bonus on LPing may be increased, and, if so, so will the number of value points needed to reach multiplier tiers

Rentals

The rental system has been updated to now support only 7-day or 30-day rentals, instead of the per-match quickrent option that was previously available.

This will enable users to rent for extended periods of time without having to worry about per-match deaths, which should lead to more adventurous gameplay. The Captains (as in, ship NFT holders) also voted on a new pricing minimum for the 7-day / 30-day regime here.

While the in-game quickrent was a powerful mechanic for getting users quickly into matches, it led to a number of buggy game states and difficult user experience chokepoints for web2-type users. We’ll be reintroducing quickrent again in the future when the nuggies payment flow is cleaner & more obvious.

Note that while repairs are not currently implemented in the game, they will be added at some point either mid-Season 2 or in Season 3, and the user who is paying to rent the asset will be responsible for repairs. Note also that rentals have not quite migrated into the new kap.gg portal, so they’re still located over at the Shipyard for now — we’ll be moving them shortly.

Referrals Updates

The referral system has been updated to grant 5% of all mBLAST, doubloons, and nuggies (that are withdrawn) to the referring user when their referral earns (or withdraws) an asset. As detailed in the QoL updates below, you also now have a new dashboard with which to view your referral earnings more granularly. A few additional important notes:

All existing referrals remain in place.
While we currently do not support “cascading bonuses” (e.g. Person A refers Person B who refers Person C, and Person A gets 5% of the 5% Person B receives), we may do so in the medium-term future.
We’ll be doing additional work on this system in the future to make it more seamless for the users you refer to understand they’ve been referred.

The referral system is very important to us. Because we have a complex in-game economy planned, it’s possible (and likely) that more adjustments will be made to the referral system, and certain qualifying assets will be either added or removed in the future. Bring all yer mateys!

Guilds (Soft Launch)

Guilds, or, as we pirates call them, “Flags,” are an incredibly important element of a burgeoning multiplayer social gameplay experience like Captain & Company. We know that players have been loosely assembling into guilds and alliances for some time, so we’re very excited to be teaming up with Shards to roll out on-chain fractionalized guilds.

From a player perspective, we’re planning to eventually integrate these into the in-game UI in exactly the same way you’d expect guild membership to be displayed in any other MMO UI. However, for now, as we wanted to get the functionality to you immediately, they’ll only be available to be accessed within your new kap.gg/profile settings page and on the Shards site.

Shards uniquely allows players to create guilds by minting them & then having other players mint or purchase seats to enter. Then, other players (or speculators) can mint or purchase “fractions” of that guild. When the guild participates in esports-like contests (which we or Shards will sponsor), the prize pool is split amongst all participants.

As we’ll be implementing Shards as our actual in-game guild functionality, this will dovetail as a “normal” social guild feature in addition to permitting the on-chain fractionalization and ownership elements of the Shards platform.

We’re calling this the “soft launch” because we’ll be truly launching & advertising guilds (& the Shards functionality) in tandem with our Season 2 launch. More contests & rewards will be advertised at that time. For now, we wanted to give our earliest supporters the chance to get their guilds set up today & help us troubleshoot the very advanced functionality behind Shards.

QoL Changes

As our studio & broader publisher brand KAP Games evolves, we’re making a number of huge behind-the-scenes updates to dramatically modernize our platform and get ahead of the industry in a few key areas, each of which are largely related to either (1) making the web3 experience more seamless for web2 users or (2) providing more unique digital ownership opportunities to our web3 audience.

What's Next: Land, Blast, & Roadmap

Ahoy mateys! In just a few short months, Captain & Company has grown from an initial combat alpha into the largest game ecosystem on Blast L2, complete with fully cross-platform co-op PvP gameplay, on-chain crafting, and positively skeletal PFPs.

But pull out yer spyglass and peer with us into the near future, Season 2 ho!

Seasonal Airdrop Rewards

Captain & Company is a seasonal live service game, and each season runs an ongoing airdrop program. For Season 1, this airdrop program used a system named Pirate Power which multiplied a non-tradeable currency called Doubloons, which you earned simply for holding any synced assets or nuggies in your account, as well for playing and successfully extracting.

These Doubloons, at the end of the season, are entirely consumed and exchanged for chances to win fractions of land, termed “land crystals,” explained more below.

In addition to our native Season 1 airdrop rewards, as part of our migration to Blast, we have also operated a Blast Gold campaign on behalf of Blast, via our points currency mBLAST, which, largely similar to Doubloons, is also generated by holding synced and unlisted assets in your account, playing, or staking on https://kap.gg/blast.

The end of Season 1 does not change the ongoing distribution of mBLAST, Blast Gold, or Blast Points. These are different systems that run in parallel. Blast Gold distributions will continue, and mBLAST is currently unchanged.

When Season 2 launches, we’ll be massively consolidating our existing points system into something that’s substantially easier to understand, largely by combining concepts from both the Pirate Power / Doubloons system and the Pirate Tier / mBLAST systems, but those details will come later.

FAQ

The most important things to know are that:

Season 1 participants who held Doubloons will be receiving their land crystal airdrop in the next few weeks
mBLAST farmers will continue to farm mBLAST, including through Season 2, all the way until Blast themselves discontinue their points campaign
Doubloon emissions will be paused until Season 2 begins

Land

As with all great MMOs, Captain & Company will have land! This ultra-rare, extremely limited supply asset will be responsible for a number of very important long-term features for social and economic gameplay.

Land itself will take the form of islands, one released per season, each of which will be subdivided into a playable grid of map tiles. Those map tiles are each “zoned” for a type of tile improvement (“building”) that the owner of the tile can choose to craft on top of it. Specifically, these may include but are not limited to:

Crafting stations. Certain assets will require users to craft them using a crafting station. The owner of the crafting station may take a fee for crafts completed.
Repair shipyards. Repairs will be done via the local island’s shipyard that you’re on, and the owner of that shipyard may take a fee on repairs.
Player-owned housing. Ranging across various sizes, a limited number of players will be able to own in-game hideouts. Note: This feature in particular is extremely complex, and will take a substantial amount of time.
Resource nodes. Certain tiles can become resource nodes, which emit resources (like lumber and ore) over time.

Land is a very complex feature and will not be immediately playable in Season 2, however, the initial distribution of Season 1’s island land tiles will be finalized using the land crystals system described below.

Land Crystals (The Airdrop)

Because Captain & Company has a player-run economy, we’ll continue to drive towards decisions that put power in the hands of the players — and this includes decisions that attempt to involve all players in some form in land gameplay.

That’s where land crystals come in. Land crystals have a few important characteristics:

They represent fractional amounts of land
In certain sums, they can be combined to craft playable a land tile
Each season’s land crystals are specific to that season’s island, and can only be redeemed for a land tile on that island, and only earned during that season

Each season has a specific named island associated with it, with its own land tiles and player owners. Over the course of each season, 100% of that season’s land crystals will be dropped or otherwise assigned to players — and no more of that season’s specific island crystals will ever be issued.

In essence, this means that each season players will compete to earn land crystals, which, at the end of each season, will become tradeable and redeemable for that season’s land tiles. Because land will be fractionally earnable, this will allow all players to participate in the pursuit of glory, but only the truly brave will be able to collect enough (either through their direct efforts or trading with others) to craft a playable land tile.

As with all crafted assets inside of Captain & Company, land tiles themselves will also have bonding curves applied to their crafting cost. This importantly rewards early actors and preserves asset values for long-term holders, as well as allows for dynamic adjustment if an influx of players dramatically raises demand. Any specific season’s island land tiles can be crafted at any point after the season finishes, but note that all land crystals associated with those specific season’s island land tiles will have been already distributed and will likely need to be collected (purchased) from other players.

That means that regarding where we are now at the end of Season 1, 100% of the first island’s land crystals will be airdropped pro rata to all Doubloons holders.

These will be the only land crystals associated with Season 1’s island that will ever be dropped. These Season 1 land crystals will be untradeable until we get closer to land crafting that will open later this year, but each of your ownership stakes are secured.

Blast Gold

Blast Gold, part of the ongoing Blast L2 launch campaign, is a separate system that runs in parallel to Doubloons, land crystals, and other Captain & Company-specific seasonal rewards. Players will continue to farm mBLAST (Blast Gold) throughout the inter-season period, Season 2, and beyond, up until Blast discontinues their launch campaign.

The method by which players earn mBLAST, however, will change at the start of Season 2. The systems will be disclosed more as we get closer, but, in short, the changes will revolve around:

Adjusting gameplay-earned mBLAST to be granted via quests & objectives
Adjusting staking-earned mBLAST to be granted largely through LP positions
Adjusting NFT holding-earned mBLAST to include more asset types, by value

The net is that all Blast farmers can continue exactly as they have been, Blast Gold will continue to be dropped as long as Blast’s own mainnet launch campaign continues, and Season 2 will bring new exciting ways to earn mBLAST (Blast Gold).

The Blast Migration

As part of our ongoing commitment to the Blast ecosystem, we’ll be migrating all Captain & Company NFT assets into Blast.

This will take some time — infrastructure on Blast is still quite nascent, and some things will have to be built by us in-house that were not previously anticipated. Nonetheless, you should expect a complete migration of Blast assets to happen roughly around the same time as Season 2 launches in the next few weeks.

Importantly, as a consequence of the migration, we’ll also be moving towards off-chain crafting temporarily until gas fees on Blast come down considerably. This is because we are also dramatically increasing the number gameplay mechanics associated with crafting, and do not want to drive undue friction to players.

We remain excited about the potential of Blast L2 to grow into one of the most formidable ecosystems in the space, and are very honored to hold the position of the largest Blast Points-distributing game on the entire chain.

What’s Next? Season 2 Roadmap!

Season 2 will be arriving in a few short weeks, and we’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes updates for all ye daring scallywags in the #dev-updates channel in our Discord. Suffice to say, there are some super exciting components here that players have been asking about for some time, as well as some new ones that may come as a pleasant surprise!

Adventure Mode

PvE! Seriously, actual PvE — it’s not quite Elden Ring yet, but it’s a whole lot less stressful than the paragraph below this one (good luck, PvPers). Players will be able to enter an instanced map with a number of NPC ships for them to bombard at their leisure. Additionally, the very center of the adventure mode map will be an open PvP zone, for the daring individuals who still want to feel that spicy kick and settle the score publicly.

Deathmatch Mode

PvP is going back to 1v1 mode, and, with it, MMR will be changing as well to become substantially more challenging. Deathmatch mode will pit two players against each other and end when one player is victorious. MMR will also reward players more for defeating players at-or-above their own rank, which will serve as a natural tapering of the ability for players to climb to the maximum ranks.

As a consequence of this, expect us to be dedicating more rewards towards MMR ranking than we have in the recent past.

Combat Updates

New weapon types! Specifics will be disclosed (or leaked in #dev-updates in Discord) soon, but suffice to say that it won’t just be the same singular boring cannon anymore. Captain & Company is an expansive game universe, and anything can be a weapon if you dream hard enough!

UI Overhaul

Both the in-game UI and the Shipyard are getting a facelift! You’ll have access to a substantially more streamlined experience (especially crafting & inventory management functions), as well as the addition of completely new functions like quests & objectives, the new points system, and an in-game inventory. Huzzah!

Crafting & Loot

Crafting will be moving off-chain as we migrate to Blast, and more loot types will be introduced during the season. For now, crafting will take place on the new webpage UI we’ll be rolling out, but, as alluded to above in the land section, we’ll be looking to move crafting “onshore” as soon as possible. For now, just be aware that you’ll be “bridging” assets you want to craft/play with into & out of the game environment, until Blast becomes a low-to-zero fee chain.

Rentals

We know rentals are annoying, for a lot of reasons, on both the player & owner sides. We’re going to be making a number of adjustments, the first of which is a switch to time-based (7-day or 30-day) rentals. Later, we’ll be reintroducing the in-game quickrent option as well. For now it’ll be replaced with a hyperlink to allow players to rent outside the game. Rentals are an important part of the player-run economy, and we want to make sure all parties feel excited about a fair system to harvest yield or get in some Captain gameplay hours without needing to shell out for a complete ship.

Shards

As part of our interaction with Shards, we’ll be looking to support guilds and player cooperatives as they compete for huge prize pools. Stay tuned as this feature will be released super soon (possibly before Season 2 even starts) for initial testing!

The Skellies: Masters of the Seas

Introducing The Skellies: a rag-tag gang of ne'er-do-wells who washed up on the shores of the Goldcoves ready for a tussle and keen to make a quick buck.

These nefarious bags o’ bones are simultaneously responsible for the best and the worst of the Goldcoves. They’re a bunch a’ no-good thieves, beggars, liars & cheats, but the one thing they all share is a deep-seated love of some homegrown piracy and keeping a sharp eye out for their fellow shipmates. A true pirate crew!

Skellies 101

Skellies come in all shapes and sizes, but the ones hittin’ the deck in the next week are the very first of their kind — raw to the bone and all decked out in varying degrees of pirate splendor (or stages of degen decay). With traits spanning key elements like bone texture, mouth, eyes, clothing, headpieces, earrings, weapons & more, there’s absolutely going to be a Skellie that vibes with yer piratin’ spirit!

The Epic Skellies

But wait! There’s more!

Skellies themselves are just the tip of the iceberg. The real crème de la crème are the Epic Skellies, the big brothers of the normie Skellies. The head honchos, the mavericks, the Admirals of the sea. These are extremely exclusive PFPs that can only be crafted by a daring soul sacrificing 25 normal Skellies and 3 ships of the current season to Davy Jones’ locker.

Whoa.

That’s right, at absolute maximum there will only ever be 100 of the Epic Skellies produced per season, and doing so would consume the entirety of the supply of that season’s normal Skellies. We will never allow users to directly mint Epic Skellies outside of this framework.

Davy Jones will be sharing the Epic Skellie artwork a week or two after mint, right when he’s ready to open that ethereal crafting portal to the land of the Epic Skellies.

Seasonality

Captain & Company is a live-service game that’s constantly evolving, player-owned, and determinedly set on becoming web3’s largest cross-platform action-adventure MMO. As with all MMOs, our aspirations are to capture the creative imaginations of millions of players worldwide, simultaneously venturing out on the shores of the Goldcoves via our seamless cross-platform PC, mobile, and browser experience.

Rewards Update: Blast, Staking, Ships & More

All of ye pirates just won the biggest mainnet launch contest this year with Blast’s Big Bang! We’ve now added a bunch more juicy loot to our seasonal reward schedule and even more ways for players to get involved and own the ecosystem!

What is Blast? Airdrop, You Say?

We’ve got some huge news to share. We’re moving. Digitally, of course. From the friendly Arbitrum neighborhood over to the newest Layer 2 blockchain on the block, Blast, a chain built by the same team that took Blur to the top of the NFT marketplace charts over the past two years. It’s a huge project that’s already attracted over $2.5 billion in liquidity, which, in just two weeks of being live, has already skyrocketed it to the same level as Avalanche, Polygon, and other heavyweights.

Why does this matter to me? Because of the loot, of course! As part of our victory in the Blast Big Bang mainnet launch competition, we’ll be allocated a “substantial” quantity of Blast Gold to distribute to our players. Blast Gold will ultimately convert into $BLAST when the Blast team finalizes the airdrop at some point later this year, likely in May.

How to Participate & Farm Loot

Our cabin crew down below spent a ton of time crafting an expertly balanced allocation of rewards to address all player types within the Captain & Company ecosystem. Because Captain & Company is a digital asset-enabled game, we have a ton of different players that we all have to keep in mind:

Given this broad scope of player types, we settled on this distribution:

- mBLAST is allocated both directly for in-game activity and leaderboards

  - 15% to players for end-of-season leaderboard positions

- mBLAST is allocated based on a linear pro rata distribution using a user’s # of ships held unlisted out of the total # of ships held unlisted
🥩 15% to stakers
- Users can stake any of $KAP, USDB, or ETH
- mBLAST is allocated based on a linear pro rata distribution using the $ value of a user’s total staked out of the total $ value of all users staked
  - $KAP stakes are worth 50% more per point of $ value than USDB or ETH
  - USDB stakes yield the currently prevailing Blast APR (15%)
  - ETH stakes yield the currently prevailing Blast APR (4%)
  - USDB and ETH stakes pass on Blast Points to users (see below for clarity)

This distribution appropriately rewards players with the lion’s share for their participation & support, and allows them to own a huge portion of the ecosystem rewards.

It also appropriately incentivizes Admirals, Captains, and other third-party investors to hold ships and help improve the value of the ecosystem for all involved.

And, finally, it leverages the very unique features of the Blast ecosystem for DeFi farmers and passes through the native yield they would expect elsewhere on Blast, but with even more gameplay bonuses on top!

What is Staking, and Why Should All Pirates Stake?

Staking is done at https://kap.gg/blast on the Blast network. If you aren’t yet on the Blast network, don’t worry, interacting with the site & guide below will take you through all the steps needed!

Staking with Captain & Company gives you the exact same base rewards as you earn for being on Blast (“Blast Points”), plus additional mBLAST (“Blast Gold”) from us and an awesome in-game multiplier!

More specifically, the rewards for staking are:

Blast Points if you’ve staked ETH or stablecoins
mBLAST, a representation of Blast Gold
A higher Pirate Tier which gives you a multiplier on in-game mBLAST earnings
4% APR if you’ve staked ETH
15% APR if you’ve staked stablecoins (Note: This rate changes frequently)

Note: The APR here is generated from Blast itself. We are not a DeFi protocol ourselves — we just pass along the native yield that Blast allows us to, and give you gameplay bonuses on top.

Blast Points are abstract currency distributed by the Blast team themselves for liquidity (ETH or stablecoins) on the Blast chain. When you stake with Captain & Company, we pass those Blast Points on to you, which means that you’re getting as good of a deal with Captain & Company as you would anywhere else on Blast, plus extra goodies!

Blast Gold are an abstract currency distributed by the Blast team themselves to apps on the chain who then redistribute it out to their own users/players as an ecosystem incentive. As a Big Bang mainnet winner, Captain & Company will be receiving a “substantial” quantity of Blast Gold to hand out to players. To begin tracking who will get what, we’ve issued our own mBLAST tracking system so that you can tell where you sit in the airdrop leaderboards.

Blast Points and Blast Gold will convert to $BLAST later this year when the Blast team finalizes their airdrop, likely in May.

Pirate Tiers help you farm faster in-game by multiplying the amount of mBLAST you earn during your sessions. The Pirate Tiers go from Tier 1 to Tier 5, and have the following requirements:

Tier 1: 1.25x bonus, requires 200,000 points of value staked
Tier 2: 1.50x bonus, requires 500,000 points of value staked
Tier 3, 1.75x bonus, requires 1,000,000 points of value staked
Tier 4: 2.25x bonus, requires 2,500,000 points of value staked
Tier 5: 3.00x bonus, requires 5,000,000 points of value staked

Stakes are not locked, and you can withdraw at any time. The multiplier applies only to your in-game earnings.

How Do I Stake?

To get started, you’ll need:

Metamask
ETH, USDC, USDT, DAI, USDB, or KAP on Blast or on Ethereum
An adventurous pirate spirit!

Step 1. Determine if you have the right currencies on the right network.

To stake, you’ll require either ETH, KAP, or stablecoins on the Blast network. To get these, you can either bridge them directly or buy them while on Blast. We’ll walk you through both.

Step 2a. Bridge ETH and stablecoins to Blast.

If you’re planning on staking ETH and stablecoins, you can bridge them from mainnet Ethereum using the default Blast Bridge, or, if you’d like to bridge from other Layer 2s, you can use Rhino.fi.

Gas fees on Blast are very low, but you’ll still need a few dollars worth of ETH just to keep yourself covered.

(Note: Rhino.fi is an unaffiliated third-party platform, proceed with caution & acknowledge risks are your own.)

Step 2b. Bridge $KAP to Blast.

If you’re planning on staking $KAP, you can bridge it from mainnet Ethereum using our own KAP Bridge under the “Bridge KAP” tab. We’ll be adding other options to bridge $KAP from other Layer 2s down the road.

(Note: Bridging $KAP is currently one-way from Ethereum to Blast. Bridging from Blast to Ethereum will be enabled soon.)

Step 2c. Buy $KAP on Blast.

If you already have ETH or stablecoins on Blast and want to buy $KAP instead of bridging it, you can use Thruster.finance to swap ETH for $KAP.

Step 3. Stake.

After you’ve acquired the amount of $KAP, ETH, or USDB you’d like to stake, head to https://kap.gg/blast and prepare to level up! Choose your currency, see the number of Pirate Tier points you’ll be generating, and then press Stake to finalize.

Step 4. Use your multiplier to play, reap the rewards passively & actively!

You’ll get mBLAST emissions just for having value in the pool! Rewards are distributed pro rata based on the amount of value you have vs the entire pool’s value. In addition, you can hop directly into Captain & Company and start playing to really make the most of your Pirate Tier multiplier. Best of luck, scallywags!

A Quick Update on Future Developments

With Season 1 well through midway complete, we’ve got a lot to look back on. Launching a live service game on three platforms (PC, browser, and mobile), creating the very first Redeemables (“lootbox”) contracts with OpenSea, and building one of the highest-volume NFT collections on Arbitrum are lofty objectives that we’re proud to have hit with all of you together.

Pair that with another complete chain migration to a new and untested environment, and you can very quickly see how our cabin boys have been manning the ropes day & night to make this work for all ye pirates!

As we look forward to Season 2, we’ll be teasing a number of completely new gameplay features we’ve been working on under the hood, as well as a number of NFT-related releases that players have been asking for since the start (perhaps rhymes with “TFT”…?).

Additionally, during Season 2 we’ll be dramatically revamping the entire Doubloons, Pirate Power, Pirate Tier, mBLAST, Pirate Points, and Nuggies systems… because that’s just too much. It’ll be simpler, easier to understand, and still hit that same balance of fairness across our myriad ecosystem participants, from players to collectors to farmers.

Season 1 Game Launch! Economy, Cross-Play, Rentals

Season 1: The Iron Corsairs marks the first chapter of Captain & Company gameplay. Complete with massive real-time multi-player lobbies, PC / mobile / browser cross-play, and, of course, player crafting of yer very own ships!

As players step back in to the Goldcoves, it's important to note that the Economy 1.0 patch has also been implemented. This means that players can now earn (and lose!) nuggies during the course of combat. We'll dig in on specifics below.

Additionally, the Shipyard now supports rentals of yer ships. Simply designate the price and time you'd like to have the ship available to other players, and our helpful gremlins back at the docks will start farming those sweet, sweet nuggies for you.

This is just the first chapter in what is shaping up to be a glorious nautical adventure the likes of which the world has never seen! In future patches we'll explore islands (and land ownership), further ship types and customization, PvE adventure modes, social gathering arenas, and more!

Crossplay (Mobile/PC/Browser)

We know we said we'd build mobile at some point, but we got so excited about it that the shipwrights back at the docks worked double-time to cook it up just for this launch! Today we're rolling out the initial alpha of full crossplay support, inclusive of:

This is a huge milestone not just for Captain & Company but for all of blockchain-enabled gaming, where crossplay has yet to become the norm. While these downloadable builds will be available at first directly through our site at capnco.gg/download, shortly we’ll have Captain & Company listed on all your favorite distribution sites and apps!

Economy 1.0

Captain & Company’s economy is based on players heading out to sea and pillaging each other for big stacks of glorious nuggies. Those nuggies can now be exchanged for $KAP at a rate of 10,000 nuggies per $1 worth of $KAP, and nuggies can now be purchased at the same rate.

However, players must now also pay nuggies to repair their ships when they’re on the unlucky end of a broadside attack! The current repair rate for the circulating Clockwork Brigs is set to 10,000 nuggies per full hull health repair (or $1). Note that this is the same amount that players will be able to loot from destroyed Clockwork Brigs out on the open sea.

Captains also now have the ability to compensate their company crew members with some percentage of the booty hauled in during each pillage. By default this will be set to a 10% split, meaning that Captains keep 90% of the nuggies per booty, and their company crew members split the remaining 10%. This will become toggleable by Captains momentarily so that they can set their own desired rates, and crew members can choose captains based on their skill or generosity.

Note: For 24 hours after launch, the earning of nuggies and the mandatory repair fees will be temporarily disabled. This is to monitor for stability and fairness, as well as give new players an opportunity to test the meta before real value enters the fray.

Rental System

For those of ye that hold ships, you’ll also have the option to rent those out to your fellow players easily via the Shipyard at launch!

To rent out your ship(s), head to the Shipyard and go to the Rentals section. Here you’ll be able to designate a ship for rent, set the amount of time you want other users to be able to use it, and set the premium price you want those users to pay you for the privilege of sailing your beautiful vessel.

You’ll be paid that price in nuggies, which will immediately accrue to your account. Note that while you’re renting out a ship it will continue to count as an asset held for Doubloons generation as well. We’ll be looking to support additional on-chain options shortly when the community requests them.

Referral System

We’ve set up a generous referral system for you to earn 5% of all nuggies withdrawn and doubloons generated by all the people that you refer! To participate, simply go to your Shipyard Dashboard and copy your referral link at the bottom. Additionally, if you refer someone who refers someone else, you’ll also get 5% of the credit for their referrals! Nuggies on nuggies on nuggies!

MMR

An MMR system has been introduced to enable you to track your pirating skill as both a Captain and a company crew member. These are two distinct ratings that your user account will have, and can be tracked in the Shipyard. Lobbies will eventually support loose matchmaking using the Captain MMR ratings, but at launch all players will be treated equally in the same pool. Company crew member MMR ratings are primarily for Captains to view and decide how to vet applicants to their ships.

Ship Crafting & Customization

Ship crafting & color customization are fully live! You can read more about the complete crafting process here, but, in a nutshell, to craft a ship you’ll need to:

Acquire 0.015 ETH for a Clockwork Brig craft fee
Head to the Shipyard blueprints page and craft yer ship!

All ships spawn with random color variation, so mix and match your ships to find the one that best suits your pirating spirit!

Note: Wraith Brigs can currently be crafted but are rendering in-game as Clockwork Brigs. Their in-game models will be enabled shortly!

Regional Servers

We know our pirates are global, and we’re working hard to make sure that Captain & Company servers can come to a location near you ASAP! To address this, we're introducing our first two regional servers:

US (East)
Asia

Note that at launch, only US (East) will be immediately available, with the Asia server turning on within the next 96 hours after launch.

We’ll be closely monitoring the performance of these servers and the demographic makeup of our pirates to make sure that you always get that smooth sailing experience we want. If you’re finding that you and your friends are having difficulty with latency, please reach out to our support team.

Interoperability

We’ve teamed up with both Shrapnel and Kitty Inu to bring their characters to life Captain & Company! Shortly after launch (within the next 96 hours), you’ll start to see their friendly faces start to pop up in the main island lobby. Then, in the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing details on how you as a player of Shrapnel or a holder of Kitty Inu can claim your limited-edition cosmetic hat inside of Captain & Company!

There’s an absolute ton of stuff that we’ve been putting together and we’re ready to spill the beans. Read on, adventurer!

Land? Airdrop? Wen?

You read that right — we’re preparing the most novel airdrop in web3 gaming history by creating a pool of drop assets that will include the first parcels of ultra-rare, extremely limited-supply land inside of Captain & Company, as well as a generous hoard of nuggies for all ye scallywags to fight over!

Instead of going with the industry-standard multi-million dollar land sale grab, we instead wanted to turn these crucial gameplay pieces directly over to our most engaged players, who we know will be the best custodians of their future value!

Who Qualifies? How Do We Earn?

All of ye! But some more than others, of course, because we love our captains. 👀

Hold nuggies (by depositing $KAP) inside of your Captain & Company account
Actively play & avoid withdrawing your nuggies for extended periods of time

Specifically, holding more-rare NFTs inside of the Captain & Company universe, or stacking up your account with nuggies (by depositing $KAP, or by winning sea battles), and staying active without cashing out, all contribute to driving your Doubloon multiplier higher!

However, if you withdraw your nuggies too soon, Davy Jones will have a word with you about that multiplier of yours… it’ll be reduced proportional to the amount you’ve withdrawn!

And About the Rewards…

We’ve got big plans to show a piratey thank-ye to those of you that are sittin’ pretty at the top of the Doubloon leaderboards. Reward distribution will occur at the end of the season, and there are two principal categories of rewards:

Land, which will be extremely limited in supply & raffled by doubloon count
Nuggies, which will be distributed amongst all participants pro-rata

That means that just by participating in Season 1 via any of the methods above, you’ll be qualifying yerself for a nuggie airdrop at the end of the season as well as the super important chance to win that precious, precious land!

While more details about the land gameplay will be advertised later, it’s our intention to build Captain & Company into a vibrant, highly social multiplayer ecosystem inspired by some of the original greats like EVE Online, Puzzle Pirates, and ArcheAge, all held together by incredibly entertaining quickplay naval combat that you can play on any device with any of your friends!

How do I make a KAP account?
Simply log in via your email or Discord on kap.gg or on the Doubloons user page listed above, and you’ll be good to go!

My Zealy quests aren’t giving me doubloons.
Doubloon counters currently refresh every 15 minutes. Additionally, you’ll need to ensure the email that you’re using on your kap.gg account is the same email that you have synced to your Zealy account. If you’re using Discord to log into kap.gg, then your Zealy email should match the one you have on your Discord account.

When will rewards be distributed?
At the end of the season, which will be when the countdown on the top of the page ends!

Why is my multiplier not going up?
Multipliers are recomputed at the end of each day. Check back in tomorrow!

Will there be a leaderboard?

Becoming a Pirate: Lootboxes, Crafting Ships, and Pre-Season Rewards

The time has come for the true pirates amongst ye to embrace yer inner adventurer, open yer Clockwork Lootboxes, craft a mighty vessel, and set sail!

Captain & Company’s Clockwork Lootboxes will be redeemable on OpenSea on Tuesday, November 21 at 12:00 PM EST, and Captain & Company itself will be playable just hours after that at 6:00 PM EST!

Below is a comprehensive guide to take you from zero to hero in just five minutes and get you equipped for battle out on the open sea. We’ll review the distribution of assets from your lootboxes, the various resources you can collect, the ships you can make, and where to go to play to start competing for rewards. Yarr!

Step 1: Open Your Clockwork Lootboxes

To begin, you’re going to need to have at least one Clockwork Lootbox. If you don’t have one, you can still pick one up on OpenSea in the secondary market — assuming they haven’t all already been opened by the time you read this!

Take your Clockwork Lootbox to the OpenSea Redeemables page for Certificates and press “Redeem” to open your box. Doing so will cause two things to happen:

Your Clockwork Lootbox NFT will be burned.
You will receive 5 randomized NFTs back, sampled from the Clockwork Lootbox drop table. These will be called “Certificates” (we’ll explain more below).

Recall the distribution of assets from the Clockwork Lootboxes. You’ll receive 5 certificates of these assets, randomly, directly into the same wallet from which you originally had the Clockwork Lootbox redeemed from.

Check your OpenSea profile page and confirm that the transaction has completed and that you are now in possession of the expected random distribution of 5 new Captain & Company assets.

Step 2: Understand Blueprints and Certificates

There will be five Captain & Company asset collections around the time you open your lootboxes. They are:

Captain & Company - Certificates
Captain & Company - Resources
Captain & Company - Ships
Captain & Company - Cosmetics
Captain & Company - Clockwork Lootboxes

When you open your lootbox, you’ll receive assets belonging only to the Captain & Company - Certificates collection. These Certificates take two forms:

Blueprints, which, when combined with Resources using the instructions below, turn into ship NFTs which belong to the Captain & Company - Ships collection
Certificates, which can always be redeemed at the Captain & Company Shipyard page to receive the quantity of assets the certificate represents

This will make much more sense in a moment, but, for now, just recognize that we use Certificates as a way to give you multiple assets at once, sort of like Runescape noted items.

Step 3: Redeeming Certificates for Resources

Resource certificates represent some large bundle of resources. But, you’ll need to redeem (“un-note” for ye Runescape fans) that certificate into physical resources (for free). You do this at the Captain & Company Shipyard page by selecting the certificate you want to redeem, and then pressing the “Redeem” button, per below.

You do not need to redeem ship blueprints yet, we’ll get to that in a moment.

To redeem your certificates for resources, head to capnco.gg/shipyard. Choose the Certificates tab.

First, redeem your Resource certificates, as you’ll need those to make ships.
Choose the certificate you’d like to redeem, and choose “Approve” to allow the Shipyard to migrate your assets, then click “Redeem.” You’ll receive the physical resources directly into your wallet.

Once you’ve redeemed your resource certificates and you’ve confirmed that the expected assets have been moved into your wallet inventory (check yer OpenSea profile page), you’re ready to craft a ship!

Step 4: Crafting a Ship

The time has come to craft yer magnificent vessel! You’ll compile each of the lumber, ore, and blueprint materials you acquired during unboxing your Clockwork Lootboxes (or trading on OpenSea) to create these masters of the sea.

To begin, navigate to the Captain & Company Shipyard page and select the “Blueprints” tab. Here, you’ll be able to pick out the ship that you want to craft, and, assuming you have the right resources, you’ll be able to immediately put it together. The resources required for the two ships you may have acquired from your lootboxes are below.

Note: As with all Captain & Company assets, ships are subject to a bonding curve. This means that each ship will be more expensive to craft than the last. The ship crafting fee shown below was for the first ship, but the fee that you pay to craft today will necessarily be higher.

Click “Craft” on the blueprint you want to craft, approve the Shipyard contract to move your Captain & Company NFTs, pay the Shipyard crafting fee, and voila! You’re now a real Captain!

(Note: The “ / “ notation reads as “balance / consumed.” Your balance is on the left. The amount that will be consumed during crafting is on the right.)

It’s worth noting that if you’re one of the very lucky few in possession of a goldprint, you simply have to take it to the shipyard and craft it immediately for a ship — no assembly fee or resources required!

Step 5: Sync Your Kap.gg Account

Head over to kap.gg and create an account or sign in. Click the top right profile icon to open your account window & battle pass. Click the Arbitrum logo to sync your wallet to your kap.gg account, which will allow Captain & Company to read your assets in-game (but will not allow any transfer permissions).

And you’re done! Any Captain & Company assets that you add to your kap.gg synced wallet can be used immediately inside of the game.

Step 6: Play and Claim Roles!

You’ll be able to take your new naval beauty straight out to sea here right after crafting, as we’ll be launching the Season 1 Pre-Season at 6 PM EST on Nov 21, which will be open for 1 hour. Additionally, starting this week, we’ll have the game live for two 1-hour windows each day, up until early December, which is when Season 1 will launch and the Economy 1.0 patch will drop.

Pre-Season Rewards & Play Windows

Daily play windows for 1hr each at 9:00 PM EST and 12:00 PM EST
Pre-season ends in early Dec
Rewards (based on the nuggies leaderboard):
- Top 1 - Wraith Brig Blueprint
- Top 3 - Clockwork Brig Blueprint
- Top 25 - 3 Booster Boxes
Rewards are additive, meaning that if you are Top 1 you also earn the Top 3 and Top 25 rewards
Nuggies earned during the Pre-Season are not withdrawable to $KAP
Nuggies will be reset at the end of the Pre-Season
Repair costs are disabled during the Pre-Season event
Wraith Brigs are rendered as Clockwork Brigs during the Pre-Season event

Before the Mint

The Captain & Company mint will take place on Arbitrum One. Each lootbox costs 0.015 Arbitrum ETH (roughly $30 USD).

If you’re paying with crypto you already own, you’ll need to bridge it over to Arbitrum - we’ve included a handy guide below for this process. Alternatively, you can pay with a credit card on OpenSea right when you mint - the only requirements for this case are having your crypto wallet and credit card ready to go.

Adding Arbitrum to your wallet

Many wallets will automatically prompt you to switch networks. If your wallet doesn’t support this, or you’d like to add the Arbitrum network to your wallet manually, you can follow these steps:

Click on your browser extension for MetaMask.
From the network drop-down menu, click Add network.

This will open up a new window. Select Arbitrum One.
Click Approve and Arbitrum should be available for use.

Bridging ETH onto Arbitrum

You can bridge Ethereum ETH to Arbitrum using the OpenSea bridge. The full OpenSea guide is here. Below, we’ve included the important steps.

On OpenSea, click your Wallet balance in the upper right corner.

Click the balance dropdown and select Bridge to Arbitrum. If you don’t see this option, switch your wallet to Ethereum Mainnet.

Input the amount of ETH you want to convert to Arbi ETH and click Convert tokens. With this action, you'll be making a direct call to the Arbitrum bridge smart contract to perform the conversion.

You'll be prompted to sign a transaction with your crypto wallet and pay a gas fee.
Once the transaction is processed, you’ll see a Transaction Complete confirmation message.

Minting with a Credit or Debit Card

You will be able to pay the mint fee with a debit or credit card. When you arrive at the collection page and click Mint, select the option to pay with a credit or debit card and follow the steps.

Please note:

Cards are commonly declined and it’s more reliable to pay directly with Arbitrum ETH
Paying with a card will still require making an Arbitrum wallet
After minting with a card, the wallet will still need some Arbitrum ETH in order to later open the Lootbox, which can be purchased with Moonpay or Metamask’s fiat options when needed.

Mint Schedule

The mint will take place on OpenSea over 24 hours with multiple allowlist phases:

Mint Your Lootbox

When you’re ready to mint, head to the Captain & Company Clockwork Lootbox collection page on OpenSea and proceed with the steps below. Remember that there are multiple allowlist phases. You can check your eligibility for each phase by visiting the collection page on OpenSea.

Go to the Captain & Company Clockwork Lootbox collection on OpenSea: https://opensea.io/collection/captain-company-clockwork-lootbox/overview
Select the number of Clockwork Lootboxes you’d like to purchase and click Mint.
If you’re paying with a card, select the Card option and proceed.
If you’re paying with crypto, select Crypto as the payment method and click Complete purchase.

If you’re paying with crypto, you’ll be asked to sign and approve the purchase in your wallet.
Once you’ve minted, it may take a moment for the NFT to be revealed.

Post-Mint

Burn, Baby, Burn

All remaining lootboxes will be promptly burned at 2 PM EST on November 15th, because if our pirates can’t have ‘em, nobody can. Yarr!

Opening Your Lootbox

After you mint, you’ll be the proud owner of one or many Clockwork Lootboxes, each filled with five pirate treasures. You can open your lootbox starting November 21 on OpenSea.

Craft Your Ship to Set Sail

After claiming your pirate goodies, head over to the Captain & Company Shipyard to craft your ships and prepare for the high seas. Here at the shipyard, you can assemble your resources to craft your ship, the most essential of worldly objects for any true pirate Captain. More details will be released closer to November 21!

Play

It’s time to pirate. Don your freshly minted cosmetics, gather your friends, hit the Goldcoves docks, and show off your treasure. Captain & Company will be live and playable for limited game play windows starting November 21 — keep yer wits about ye and stay tuned to our official Twitter and Discord channels for updates!

Mint Details: Season 1, Clockwork Extravaganza

The time has come for you pirates to get your hands on one of the highly coveted ships that will be available to players at launch!

Season 1: The Iron Corsairs is landing with a splash in the next month, so now’s your one and only chance to gear up before the party kicks off. All information related to the Season 1 mint is detailed below — dive in!

Mint Details

The opportunity to mint Captain & Company’s Season 1 Clockwork Lootboxes will open on November 14th at 12:00 PM EST (noon Eastern Time) on OpenSea. To participate in Mint 1 at a discounted price, you must register on the Allowlist or have been granted a Guaranteed Spot before November 13th at 11:59 PM EST.

The mint will be live for 24 hours only, and will have multiple allowlist phases. The mint will take place on OpenSea and use Arbitrum as the chain.

The mint will feature a maximum supply of 6,500 lootboxes, which will contain a variety of ship blueprints, cosmetics, and in-game resources explained in detail below.

Allowlists & Mint Phases

Captain & Company mints feature three different phases for pirates to join.

The Guaranteed Phase is open to an exclusive set of users that have won a Guaranteed Spot via various partner giveaways or by earning the Boatswain role in our Discord. The Guaranteed Spots are able to mint 30 minutes before all other pirates at a discounted price of $30 per lootbox paid in ETH on Arbitrum with a max of 2 lootboxes apiece.

Users who have won a Guaranteed Spot via a partner giveaway should submit their email and ETH address to that partner who will then convey your details to us. Users who have won a Guaranteed Spot via the Boatswain role should claim the associated quest for the Guaranteed Spot in Zealy.

Note that users with Guaranteed Spots are also automatically included on the Allowlist, and may mint during both phases.

The Allowlist Phase is open to users that have subscribed to our email list on capnco.gg, followed our Twitter, and dropped off their ETH address in this signup form before it’s closed. These pirates will be able to mint a lootbox during the Allowlist Phase of the mint, which lasts for the majority of the mint window. Pirates will be able to mint at a discounted price of $30 per lootbox paid in ETH on Arbitrum with a max of 5 lootboxes apiece.

The Public Phase is a very brief period at the end of the mint for any and all landlubbers that were slow to sign up for the allowlist(s), and will provide them a last-minute opportunity to jump on board before we set sail. These pirates will mint at the standard price of $50 per lootbox, paid in ETH on Arbitrum.

Start Preparing Now

The mint will take place on OpenSea, using the Arbitrum chain, and will be priced in ETH. That means that you should ensure that you have sufficient ETH on Arbitrum to purchase the number of lootboxes that will satisfy your pirating needs. If you’ve never used Arbitrum before, the good news is that it’s very simple - you can follow Arbitrum’s official bridging guide here, or use their bridge directly here.

Arbitrum features extremely low gas fees, EVM compatibility, & strong chain consensus security, which makes it ideal as an L2 for our gaming purposes.

You should also familiarize yourself with OpenSea’s user interface. We’ll be publishing a more complete step-by-step picture guide closer to mint so that you won’t have any issues navigating chains or marketplaces.

Note: You must mint using the same wallet that you provided on the Allowlist!

What’s in the Box?

You lucky pirates who manage to snag a lootbox from under the watchful eye of the Iron Corsairs will earn some combination of the below assets:

Goldprints
Cannons
Hats
Eyepatches
Lumber Bundles
Ore Bundles

Blueprints are your ticket to creating a ship inside of Captain & Company. Each ship species is highly limited in supply and must be created by combining one blueprint with lumber, ore, and ETH. Read more about the ships and the brigs that will be available in this mint here.

Goldprints are for the truly fortunate, and uniquely can be converted directly into a ship without requiring any additional resources of any kind. These magical specimens are the most coveted assets in all of the Goldcoves, and always fetch a pretty penny at the shipyard.

Cannons are the centerpiece of any Captain’s fearsome arsenal and one of a few customizable cosmetic elements of your ship.

Hats are collectibles that range in variety from faction-affiliated fantastical helms to fantasy-inspired classics like one particular pirate’s Straw Hat.

Eyepieces are collectibles that top pirates use to express their fame and fortune, or see the world through rose-colored goggles.

Lumber and Ore Bundles are certificates that grant players thousands of these precious resources, which are required by captains to both mint ships and, later, repair them.

From Minting to Playing

As soon as you mint, you’ll immediately receive a lootbox that’s filled with all sorts of pirate goodies, but you won’t be able to open it just yet — that’ll happen later, on November 21st, via a brand-new feature on OpenSea. We’re the very first featured project to be partnering with OpenSea to demonstrate this Redeemables functionality, and we’ll have a town hall right before the mint alongside OpenSea to explain to you how it all works.

On November 21st, you’ll head back to where you minted the lootboxes on OpenSea and use their brand-new Redeem function to pop those lootboxes open. At that point, you’ll receive 5 NFTs simultaneously, which are randomly sampled from the assets listed above. You’ll then take those assets to the Shipyard page on our website and combine various resources and blueprints together to create the very first rare ships of the entire Captain & Company universe!

In order to mint a ship, you’ll need resources. But, fret not, it’s very likely you’ll find most of those resources inside of the boxes you’re about to open (and, if you don’t, it means you may have received multiple ship blueprints, which make you one very lucky pirate). Ship crafting costs are:

Clockwork Brig: 30,000 Padauk (T2 Lumber), 15,000 Iron (T2 Ore), 0.015 ETH
Wraith Brig: 30,000 Purple Heart (T3 Lumber), 15,000 Mithril (T3 Ore), 0.050 ETH

Within 24 hours of those boxes opening, we’ll be opening the gates to the Goldcoves for limited time periods per day.

You’ll be able to hop in, invite all your friends, and immediately start blasting scallywags straight down to Davy Jones’ locker. We’ll also have additional rewards available for the best performers periodically during Season 1, so keep your eyes peeled for additional ways to win treasure!

Referral Booster Boxes

There are many brave pirates amongst your ranks who made a phenomenal push to recruit tens of thousands of other players to enter the Goldcoves. For those efforts, pirates who participated in the referral program on capnco.gg will be receiving 1 Booster Box for every 20 referrals they successfully secured.

These Booster Boxes will be delivered in-game a few weeks after the Season 1 mint finalizes to give the team time to stabilize the servers.

Note that the total number of ship blueprints across all booster boxes is only 1,000, which means that pirates looking to be captains should still mint Season 1 Clockwork Lootboxes in the main mint event if they want a strong chance of securing a ship at launch, as the total supply of both the Clockwork Brig and the Wraith Brig will not increase past the total amounts issued in these two boxes.

Burn Baby, Burn

Barnaby Bluewater, the eccentric washed-up salesman who runs the shipyard over at the Goldcoves, has a thing against holding too much inventory on hand. So, periodically, he burns all the ships and assets he’s got sitting around. It’s quite a spectacle. And, for this mint, it’ll be happening just after the final public phase closes.

Any Clockwork Lootboxes left unminted will be promptly set ablaze and burned at approximately 2:00 PM EST on November 21st.

This will be your one and only opportunity to own real assets inside of the Captain & Company ecosystem this season, and you’ll be the first pirates to set your claim to the Goldcoves.
